"Our local plant guru at Lowe's (Orlando) said that fruit flies are a major problem and to cut down the unripe banana clump (?), hang it in the garage and pick them from there. I don't have any plants yet."

"Bananas do well if you keep them watered. I have grown banana trees but only once did they produce any bananas. I think they need lots of water. The plants hold LOTs of water in their trunks. Mine froze this Winter."

Growing bananas in Zone 9?

Has anybody tried growing bananas in Zone 9? Logee's has TONS of tropical plants, including bananas, on it's site, but it's hard to believe they would grow in our dry heat...
