My garden blog

Hello fellow veggie gardeners! I have been blessed this year to not only have my backyard garden, but I now have a 5,000 square foot garden at a farm that's about 15 minutes from my home.  The lovely couple that own the land are letting me garden for free. I would love it if you all would take a look at my blog to read about it and please leave comments and let me know what you think!  If you want to become a follower that would be great too!  Here is my blog: …See More

I started my seeds indoors this past Sunday. WAAAAY late for me. I usually start them in March. But with work and being sick time slipped away.

Anyhow, I looked yesterday and my lettuce is already sprouting!!! Yay!!

Gosh, I know just what you mean about the beautiful soil! Nothing better than getting your hands in the dirt! Our soil is generally pretty heavy with clay, but our little garden spot is pretty nice and getting better all the time. I think we are the lucky beneficiaries of the years of gardening that supported the generations of the family we bought the place from. Still not like the good, dark soil that I grew up with in Texas. When I was a little kid I lived in the cotton and oil country of the Texas pan handle. The soil in those cotton fields was so dark and lovely!

Thanks for the encouragement, Audra! I used to work with a guy who was a Master Gardener and he was so passionate about it. It was funny, really, because he was otherwise very reserved. But his love of gardening inspired a lot of us and I know of 2 or 3 others among my colleagues there who are pursuing their certification because of him. I look forward to updates on your seedlings when they make it into the ground. Oh...as for flowers, I don't know a thing either, but we put a lot of them in the ground this weekend. I have posted a few before and after pics. I'll post more as they begin to fill in. Hope all settles down for you so you can have plenty of time in the garden! Take care!

Master Gardener, huh? That is so cool! I am going to look into the Master Gardener program here. I am a rookie, but a passionate one. I am in zone 7b, so we have a lot in the ground. Last year, we started well ahead of the recommended planting schedule and got lucky. By the time others' tomatoes started putting on blossoms, we had some pretty big tomatoes. So, starting on schedule this year, it seems like we're behind. Lol! I tried starting from seed this year and everything was a miserable failure. I think it was due to a home repair which conflicted with my time and interest in my poor little seedlings. I'll try again next year. Glad to see you on Gardener's Index!
