Imagine my surprise to see that I had been featured here on Garden- Share. It's been months since I've had a chance to visit the site, but it felt like an old friend had dropped an impromtu note to say hello and remind me there is another world out there.
Since June of 2011, I've been a full time caregiver for my 79 y.o. Mom, who fell on June 21 and broke her left hip. Six months later on December 14 she fell again and broke her right hip and elbow. It's been a tough…

I hadn't been up to the Big Bear house in a month, so finally having a chance to go, I loaded my Mom, and the Pup into the car and off we went. We were only there 2 1/2 days, but it felt like a week!
As we drove through town to our place, I was noticing many of the trees were starting to show their Fall colors. I must say that Fall is my favorite season, with the crisp air, brillant colors, and the shift in the natural lighting that spreads a glow across the landscape.
When…

I am an ecclectic and voracious reader! I have books throughout my home, all at different stages of being consumed! Here's a list of what's on my nightstand:
* The Letters of Robert Louis Stevenson Vol 1
* Our Life In Gardens
* Journals of Dorothy Wordsworth Vol 2 (1897)
* Mr Loudon's England
* The Queens of Society (1890)
* The Galaxy Vol 7 (1869)
* Wood and Garden-Gertrude Jekyll
So what are you reading? I love to hear what…

I've been reading in my library tonight, " The View from Great Dixter", with all the wonderful, personal stories about Christopher Lloyd and his gardens.
Sitting in my chair, I realize that I have a yearning, a longing, to travel to Europe and to spend months and months exploring and seeing with my own eyes all the wonderful gardens I read about! I envy the gardeners of the UK and beyond, who seem to have boundless vistas, perfect weather and an abundance of history and historical…

I was finally able to get to our mountain home, where we have been working on landscaping both the front and back yards. This is the first time we have "subbed" out a gardening project, but let me say it was one of my wisest decisions to date.
This home has more rocks that weeds, so digging is a nightmare! We needed to install French drains, as well as all of the new irrigation systems and plants, going from 24" boxes on down to 1 gallon containers. We also put in retaining walls,…

JLHowell said… Hi! Haven't checked in for a while, but I spent time in my garden today and thought I would share what is happening here in SW Florida. My Cassia tree is in full bloom- beautiful yellow flowers with lots of butterflies being attracted to it. Both the orange bird of paradise and the tall white bird of paradise is in bloom. I cut back my angel's trumpet in the front yard and it is looking quite pitiful but it has managed to put out a few flowers anyway. The Hong Kong orchid tree is starting to bloom (http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://toptropicals.com/pics/garden/c21/2540.jpg&imgrefurl=http://toptropicals.com/catalog/uid/bauhinia_blakeana.htm&h=450&w=600&sz=74&tbnid=l2hJVw4PtAxlPM:&tbnh=94&tbnw=125&prev=/search%3Fq%3DHong%2Bkong%2Borchid%2Btree%26tbm%3Disch%26tbo%3Du&zoom=1&q=Hong+kong+orchid+tree&docid=p4d1DGXhJ6WRzM&hl=en&sa=X&ei=hobITpn-HsLr0QGMg-nvDw&ved=0CFMQ9QEwAw&dur=687) and I have one of my orchids that is also a purple flower in bloom hanging in the tree. I got out and replanted the pots in the backyard today with a combo of yellow (bush daisies), purple mona lavender plectranthus, and either red or white petunias. I had one pot with false heather so I replanted more plants in that pot and combined it with the Purple Mona lavendar. I will have to take pictures. I am hoping that the "home remedy" for rabbit deterents will work with this planting- dirty dog hair- as I lost most of my spring plantings within a week or two to the rabbits!
I am hoping tomorrow to do some weeding around my orange bird of paradise and spread some mulch. I also want to dig up the xanadu philodendron that have gotten leggy and replace them with the coontie that I still have in pots that were purchased this summer. I need to spread mulch in this area as well and plant some pentas in the pots I have that surround the pineapple fountain. I will try to take pictures either tomorrow or next weekend as I will be back here then.

Hello Briana, thanks for being friends. Your garden is really lovely :)

Steve Lovell said… Hello Briana, I enjoyed the stroll through your mountain garden, this morning, and was mildly surprised to find that my coffee had gone cold : ) I feel a little claustrophobic, now, gazing at my own patch .
Happy gardening,
Steve
