Heya - good to see you on here! Can't wait to get back into your garden (or soon-to-be-garden) next weekend and get things really rolling. We'll finish getting that grass up (if you guys don't finish this week), break up some dirt,…

Charlie - Try Yellow Squash Bread. It's just almost exactly like Zucchini Bread, and is a PERFECT use for those overgrown yellow squashes. Made some last week - yummy!

Connie - for a first try those are just adorable! I tried to grow pumpkins once many years ago and just ended up with moldy green ping-pong balls (I was very young, so don't know if it was some kind of pest or infection, but they never got any…

Thanks for the feedback, Charlie! Also, I harvested 3 GIANT zucchini this weekend and 2 huge yellow squash (all were WELL over 12 inches). They had gone unnoticed in the Zucchini/Squash Jungle that the garden at my old place has become. Anyways, I…

I spent this weekend moving - again. The best part is that I moved back into a house I had already started a garden at, so had plenty of clean-up gardening to do! Snagged some perennial herbs from the house I moved out of and transplanted them into…

Skye - Sounds like allergies to me. I'd try Echinacea. Or, if it is more like a cold, I would go with a tea made from one clove of sliced garlic, a pinch of fennel seed, and some sage. You might not think it is too tasty (I love it personally),…

Angry Green Chiles and Bell Peppers - HELP!

Posted on June 8, 2009 at 9:20am 1 Comment

Hi all,

I was hoping someone out there might be able to give me some advice on my Green Chiles and Bell Peppers. I live in North Texas (Zone 8) and put in some Green Chiles and Bell Peppers about three weeks ago before we got all that rain. They started developing yellowed leaves with brown spots from the bottom of the plant up, then started dropping their fruits before they set. I thought it was a fungal issue brought on by all the rain (especially because it started at the bottom… Continue

It has come from an area with partial shade (dappled below some high pines). but it receives mostly sunlight. It should be alright with anything you do with it. If you plant it late in the day and water in well and mulch, I would foresee no problems.

Caleb, I sent a box yesterday containing roots with only a six inch high leaf, even better for starting. I hope you enjoy this and it grows well for you.

Caleb, I have some that is not too high, about 2 1/2 ft. i have a box that would fit it and will try to send some out soon. If you email your address, I can get it to you within the week.

Caleb, I got your message, I'll go out and look at the ginger, if it is too big, I may have to wait and send it dormant. I'll get back to you. Thanks for all the great sites you've suggested, I've checked most of them out. Happy Gardening!

Caleb -

Thanks for the info for the link to the old window greenhouse. It's funny, that you also include a geodesic greenhouse. 14 years ago, my wife and I were looking to put a 60' dia dome on our lot. We couldn't get the financing locally, so, we went traditional. The ironic part about going geodesic is that whatever source Microsoft used for their earthview program, they took a shoot when my 5 acres were totally barren, except for where I took the tractor and scalped the land for the shape of the dome. It was real easy to spot.
Will keep everyone in the loop when I start the greenhouse project. I am getting 17 interior and 17 storm windows from my inlaws, as they are redoing their house in VA Beach.
I am sure that this project will generate some wonderful horror stories.
Later - Ken
