Many years ago I read a book "The Secret Life of Plants" that suggests plants can sense the emotions of other plants, animals and even humans around them. Fascinating! The thing that still sticks in my mind is that if one is…
Last year at this time we had 20+" of snow. The tourist and "outdoor" industries are really hurting! They rely on snow and cold for skiing, snowmobiling, ice fishing, etc. The lakes are unsafe and the ground is bare.
Well, it's Jan. 7th and the temps here in east central WI are still 20-30* above normal, with only a few dustings of snow that has since melted. No snow in the forcast yet! Unheard of in WI.
So I have collected 13 (so far) discarded…
Thanks, Ivan.... I'll keep my eye on the long range forecasts. It's supposed to be in the low 30's all through next week. I like your suggestion but don't want to do it unless I have to!
I'm getting nervous about our lack of snow here in E central WI. I have hundreds of iris in 4 large beds that so far are open to the elements and at peril if below zero temps hit before an insulating snow cover.
I'm thinking if…
Stein, if you google "seeds for woodland plants" you will find many sources where you can buy them.
You can also split the ferns already growing there... which might be far quicker and less expensive.
What a lovely area! I'm thinking you might have similar growing conditions as we do here in WI USA with the exception of a shorter growing season and longer days. I have a friend in Lierskogen, Norway who grown similar things as here in…
Don't be afraid of orchids!! I would suggest starting out with what I consider the easiest to grow.... Phalaenopsis, also known as the moth orchid.
They like temps similar to what we do--- cooler at night, maybe 60-65* and warmer in…
Have a wonderful day and get out there as soon as you can, it will be a while before I can get out, we have about 3 foot of snow on the beds. More another day!
LOVE SO MUCH YOUR IRIS PIC...SAW IT AND HAD TO CLICK AND SEE WHO HAD THIS BEAUTY! Had to laugh at comment below about spending $ on bulbs instead of purses, I'm like that, too! LOL
I know what you mean. I am retired, so have to be careful. I just would rather spend money on bulbs than purses. Seems logical. We are very dry here. Almost at a draught stage.
see ya
Hi Carol, I honored you requested me as a friend.....you may be sorry. With a master gardener as a friend I'll be picking your brain alot. I'm in Door Co. Wi. about 2 1/2 hrs north of you. I think you got the precip. that missed us today. Your pictures are gorgeous. I've just gotten back to work at the resort and been starting to uncover some of the flower beds with the bulbs in them. It's nice to see them neat and clean with the daffs. poking up. Let me know more about you.
