Last year at this time we had 20+" of snow. The tourist and "outdoor" industries are really hurting! They rely on snow and cold for skiing, snowmobiling, ice fishing, etc. The lakes are unsafe and the ground is bare.

Well, it's Jan. 7th and the temps here in east central WI are still 20-30* above normal, with only a few dustings of snow that has since melted. No snow in the forcast yet! Unheard of in WI.

Thanks, Ivan.... I'll keep my eye on the long range forecasts. It's supposed to be in the low 30's all through next week. I like your suggestion but don't want to do it unless I have to!

I'm getting nervous about our lack of snow here in E central WI. I have hundreds of iris in 4 large beds that so far are open to the elements and at peril if below zero temps hit before an insulating snow cover.

Wow--- Fascinating! What zones does it grow in? I'm in 4/5 and spend a lot of time in the woods and don't recall ever seeing it.

They like lots of sun. Some years ago I had some that grew vines like crazy but I had to be patient for the flowers.

I believe honeysuckle vines don't bloom the first 2 or maybe even 3 years.

Stein, if you google "seeds for woodland plants" you will find many sources where you can buy them.
You can also split the ferns already growing there... which might be far quicker and less expensive.

Don't be afraid of orchids!! I would suggest starting out with what I consider the easiest to grow.... Phalaenopsis, also known as the moth orchid.
They like temps similar to what we do--- cooler at night, maybe 60-65* and warmer in…
