Hi! The critters are terrible around here... especially the deer. I'm up in Grand Marais and today it is snowing. I am anxious to get out in the yard, but I guess not today! I live across the highway from Lake Superior so I constantly collect materials from the shore... rocks, sand, driftwood. I am attracted to your rock gardens and your use of natural materials. All my beds are raised because I live on bedrock. I have much to learn about gardening. So far I have mostly concentrated on flowers, but this year I intend to grow more vegetables. I have been living in this house going on 4 years so I feel that my projects and efforts are still new born. Every year brings new ideas, trials, successes, and failures! I look forward to being in touch! Roberta

Our growing season is shortened by the lake, it remains cool in the spring well into June. If we are lucky we have a late fall, but frost comes early too, so we have to cover things. My greenhouse is 8x 16 and I love it. I will be starting things the first weekend of March and I can't wait. I don't get to Tomahawk much any more as my parents are both gone and my only sister ives up here too.

Chris, I am originally from Tomahawk!!, I moved to the Superior area in 1979.

I now live about 10 miles south of Superior, Too close to the lake to have a long growing season. We usually have a cold and wet June.

Chris, Your pictures are so pretty. I love the greenhouse! We don't do anything special for the tree in winter. It's located on the north-east side of the front yard close to the house. Maybe animals are getting at yours? I could give them a good home if you desire. Bonnie

I will definitely call next time I visit in your neck of the woods. No Warnke's living in your area that I know of. My girlfriends last name is Haase that I go to visit. She has a bunch of relatives that live there year round, a cousin who owned a gas station on the old Hwy 51(before they moved it years back) and now I think is just a service center and junk yard, I think.

Hi Chris, where in Tomahawk is your nursery located? I go up to visit my girlfriend a couple of times a year. She is off of Point O Pines Rd on Lake Nokomis. I love Tomahawk area and used to frequent the Bull and Beaver which is no longer - many fun memories. Love the way Schaeffers was rebuilt and still visit the windmill for ice cream every year. We try to make it up their with our motorcycles for bike week but didn't go last year.

Hi Julie! Don't know if we'll have many aquaintences in common. I'm a retired transplant. Been living up here for 17 years now. Also being a bit younger than you (I graduated in 1968- LOL!!!) there won't be many people we will both know. I don't even know where Hiawatha Heights is! I live in the Town of King off of Horseshoe Road on Lake Alice. My husband passed away 3 1/2 years ago so now I'm here all alone. But now I'm used to that. If you ever get back this way, look me up.

Hi Chris,
I see you are from Tomahawk. I graduated in 1976 from Tomahawk. My maiden name is Swanson. Maybe we know the same people. I grew up in Hawatha Heights. Mom was a school teacher and dad worked for Bake Rite.
