Beit-Alpha Cucumbers

Has anybody had any experience raising these middle-eastern cucumbers? I just sent off for seed--usually raise a more common variety like Marketmore 76, say. I'd love to hear some feedback about what to expect. I will be growing them on the chain-link fence that surrounds our community garden--that worked well for other varieties last year.

Christina Jane Danley replied to natasha's discussion is there anyway to save the seeds from the veggies and fruits I buy in the store to use in my garden next year? in the group Vegetable Gardens
"In order to breed true , the fruit needs to be open-pollinated, not hybrid, so you'd be better off looking for an heirloom variety--most stores have heirloom or 'ugly' tomatoes--try the cheapest seeds you can find--these are usually…"

Saving seeds

I hate to waste a good seedpod. I love the cheap, open pollinated varieties from the drugstore, though sometimes I'll fork over the dough if it's an heirloom. I usually try to recycle stuff like cosmos & marigolds. A couple years ago I had a mixed heirloom tomato package from Burpee and I separated out the varieties. Everything was doing fine, the babies (Black Krim & Yellow Sunburst) were hardening off on the porch roof and I left for school as a frost hit. It killed the tomatoes and…See More
