Hi Cynthia,

Yes, I'm somewhat of a "compulsive" builder. I love to study gardening books and prowl this site for whatever may catch my eye, or suggest a change I might make. A garden is never done, is it? I need to have projects in the works to keep me busy doing "fun" things. Whenever I start to slow down on outside activities and become engrossed in a book, my dear wife suggests I clean out the garage (or some other "less favorite" activity). :-)

Cindy,
I wish we had been home when you stopped --- my gardens are always in perpetual change and disarray - a work in progress like everyone elses! I would give almost anything to be able to retire and dig in the dirt from dusk to dawn everyday. . . oh what JOY that would be! Glad you stopped - come again sometime when we're home! J

Everyone told me to do above ground, but we are slowly digging around the edges, adding compost, sand, peat, compost, dirt. Last years plants helped to break up the soil for this year. We have been at it for a about 3 -4 years of fighting the clay..........Above ground is easier. There is a video on this sight about that, I think..........................

Cynthia:

I started out like you with "new house" clay. I just kept adding good mulch each year and turned it under the next. It's not perfect but atleast you can dig it now without a pick-axe. Good luck.

and I can't remember where I got the lilies. Probably that greenhouse in Eaton Rapids or maybe Horrocks! (:

If you HAD been back to the kudzu, you could have picked the flowers when they bloom and made kudzu jelly our of them. It's good!

Postingphotos on here is a bit tideous. I have not figured out the bulk upload thing... My computer skills are rather basic in comparison to most people. I enjoy the passion flowers. I would rather have that as an invasive over English Ivy any day! Thank God I do not have kudzu!

Your garden looks fabulous! I so enjoy Northern gardens. Seems especially mid-west gardens look so lush! Must be the soil....? My husband is from the Mid West, Chicago area. I enjoy the gardens up there when we visit...in the Summer!
