That's interesting. We have osage orange trees in our yard, which were new to me when I moved to Warrenton. I was surprised to see large green tennis balls in a tree! The thorns are horrible. Thanks for the info......my deer love to eat the…
I have read about using osage orange trees as a hedge to block the deer for the plants on the protected side of the hedge. THey are lovely but have thorns that deer are unwilling to cross. Edible Landscaping in Afton, VA carries them. They are hardy…
I planted a new flower bed last April that was suppose to be deer proof. Guess they didn't read the same magazine I did! I only have a fence around the pool ~ so the rest of the yard is like a buffet for them. I'm hoping that one day…
Thanks Susan,
Actually, the stone work is real. We originally planned to have a planting area inside the pool fence but couldn't keep the dogs from digging in the dirt to keep cool. Hubby said that had to go so we filled it in and added the…

Your pictures are beautiful, I saw the pictures of the deer and know that you have your work cut out for you more than I do, with needed to choose deer proof varieties in order to not have disappointments. Or do you have certain areas fenced off from them? I do see some fencing in some photos so that must be it. Lovely!!!
I have been outside early this morning repairing what those NEW landscaping guys did. I knew I should have just mulched myself. AFter being told specifically three times not to leave or put mulch on my low growing junipers or any plants--they did anyways and of course I had already paid them before I noticed. I won't use them again. I plan to clean out the hen house and weed the big perennial bed tomorrow early in the morning. If you want some lettuce give me a call. I have beau coup.
We build out home 5 years ago so all of the plantings are new. I don't think the Bayberry shrubs are going to make it because it's too wet in that area. We planted them on the side for privacy. Luckily the lot on that side of us hasn't sold.
You have some beautiful pictures of your gardens. I envy all the space you have.
The deer must be really like to have their picture taken, how wonderful.
Deborah, I wasn't sure if you'd seen my reply, so I thought I'd put it here:
Thank you! Unfortunately last fall we had major wind storms in Ohio (left over from a hurricane), we were at the edge, I surely can't complain! But I lost all but one (clump), so I will transplant possibly, and definitely save seed this year and try to get them back!
What kind did you plant (variety or color)?
