The more gardens I sow, the less lawn I must mow.
But alas, sachre bleu then the weeds are the foe!
With a bend in my back, garden tools all in tow.
My time is then taken to dig with a hoe.
I place pretty plants in all such neat rows,
To end up with blossoms that put on a show.
So be it my fate and this I do know,
I delight in the hues of Mother Nature's rainbow!

"Rhyme Thyme"
Keep the rhyme coming.
Keep the thyme growing.
Keep the vines climbing.
And most sublimely of all,
Keep the wine flowing!

"What the Neighbors Think!"
Smile and wave and don't think twice to give your advice.
There will come a day when your Gardens will blow them away!
Then your smirk will be more than just a quirk.
It'll be a fine story that'll be your crowning glory!!!

"October Woes!"
I can't see the gardens because the leaves.
The trees have them covered up over my knees!
A really big rake I think it will take,
or a mower and blower for gosh goodness sake!
What shall I do with all these great piles?
They seem to go on for miles and miles!
I drag and I tote to fill up my compost.
A raging bonfire will give them a roast!
The colors are lovely as they lay on the ground.
Perhaps I'll just leaf them till spring comes around!

"Thankfully Graced!"
Although we remember a time in September,
when gardens were ripe with glorious splendor.
Dripping with fruit and scented with bloom,
a long ago memory to have left us so soon.
No color to see now that the leaves are all down,
except for the bark, the cool grays, the warm browns.
Even the birds have been changing their hues,
The finch yellows have gone but the jays are still blue.
Tawny wrens flit about and the cardinals stay crimson,
we must count on them now for they to be winsome.
They perch in the branches and feast on the seeds,
ornamentation akin to our bright christmas trees.
The thing that I fear is that winter is nigh,
with its blah and its bland and its snow to the thigh.
So for now I just snuggle with my dogs near my side
to wait and to wonder what time I must bide.
This is my true wish for a thankful November,
to pass the time quickly right through December.
And on into January, February and March,
to make it into the light and away from the dark.
Holding on to great hope and in fact I believe
that in nature's due time there'll be a reprieve.
I beg and I plead that I'll be above ground.
When the crocus and hyacinth and lilac abound.
I ask for this blessing, and be it God's will,
that I still be alive for the new daffodils.

"Seasons Grace"
The glory of God's grace about to begin.
Mary And Joseph turned away from the inn.
Blessed babe this day born away in the manger,
Surrounded in love by sheppard's and strangers.
Even the creatures knew what was to come.
The Christ child is given as his only son.
The angels above singing heralds on high,
Three wise men are guided by a star in the sky.
A little boy kneeling and playing a drum,
While swaddled and coddled, adored as the one.
The gifts that are given Frankincense, Gold and Myrrh,
Great joy to the world and good peace on this earth!
David F. December 2010
"Rebirth"
"The rebirth of the earth holds much promise as winter is done.
Rise with the daffodils and turn your face to the sun.
Your spirit reborn and your new life has begun!" David F. March 2011
