Thank you so much for the information Deanna. I was wondering about the purpose of the plastic jugs.!! great !! I do have a garbage size plastic barrel that i used to catch rain water....would that work ??? Living on social security is tough, so I thought if I could grow some extra things in a GOOD garden, perhaps I could sell my excess crops.(my husband passed away this past Feb., so keeping busy is VERY important right now) and I sooo enjoy see how God is so faithful and awesome with his creations and understanding this makes me so much more thankful for His mercy. I look forward to learning even more on this site.....Thank you Deanna

My husband acquired some 5 gal pickle buckets and I always wondered what to do with them....OK, POTATOES ! ! ! ! On the square foot and gardening pages, I heard for the first time in my life that potatoes grow ALL ALONG THE STEM if you keep adding dirt. I am 63 and have gardened potatoes before but just pulled dirt up around the base of the plants. Thought I had to keep the in ground "BABIES" from getting sunburned. DUH ! ! never too old to learn. I've been walking around my yard looking for just where to put things. Hope I'm not making this harder than it really is....

Hi Deanna, I saw you liked the recipe for the zic flowers. I saw one demonstrated on a cooking show and they mixed cream cheese with chives and finely minced garlic, stuffed this mixture into the blossoms coated them with tempura batter and fried them. I tried it and OMG delicious. Only problem was I wanted more and had to wait a couple more days. Had some fresh picked beans and fried them in the same batter. What diet??? I guess you have to eat bad once in a while. Hope you try this and enjoy.

to attract hummingbirds I use lots - lots of bee balm. we must have 6 hummers that are around and they just hover right in front of me when I am weeding - I love it. I am in zone 4 in upstate NY east of Saratoga - west of the vermont border.
