What kind of gardening do you like to do?
flower and veggie, some water plants
How much time do you spend a week on average in your garden when weather permits?
16 hours
Well, I have just had the best time chatting with people here. I have to be careful I don't overdo it and neglect my garden for all the fun I am having here. I am in Lincoln, the capital of Nebraska, zone 5-6. I have completed the Master Gardner program, however have not keep current with my certification becuase I can't seem to find 40 hours a week to volunteer with so much to do in my own garden right now. Maybe I'll get back to it in a few years.

My husband Myron is such a help to me for the heavy work since I got Fibromyalgia. It is kind of like arthritis, only all over. Anyway, this was my great uncles home and we spent the first couple of years removing dead trees and such, putting in sprinkler systems and retaining walls and fence. We are in an older part of town, the lots are large and wonderful. The house was built in 1940 adn we are working to remodel the inside. It is funny, but the outside looks much better than the inside so far. I wonder how that could be??? We work intensly outside until about the first of July when it gets unbearable hot and humid and just do upkeep. Then we go back inside to remodel and return back outside when it gets cooler towards the end of Aug, Sept.

I never feel better than when I have dirt all over, especially under my fingernails, or when I am spending time with my Lord. The two are not mutually exclusive you know. I want to thank all of you who have joined my friend list. This is just way too much FUN! Deb :)

Hi there. I wanted to have some colorful memories of the garden when the snow flies, but I may have overdone it. This has been such a good year for my garden though. I also love the fact that I have figured out the technology to accomplish this. Not much else to say right now. : )

Thanks for your concern no we live right in the midtown part of Omaha, close to the University Nebraska Medical Center, we just have property in the country in the family. I have the goose neck loose strife which is white and it is invasive but not a habitate problem like the other, I used to have some of the other in pink, but had to take it out as they were going around the neigborhood and looking for it and asking us to take it out, it just pained me to do it but I did. No I won't say anything, I know mine was the plant that had to be taken out.

One of the place Dilts Trucking is located out on the farm and they will not be able to do business with the flooding hurting their business. Well, I hope the plants work out on the wall, it will take about 3 years before it really starts filling in and it will be as low maintance as I hoped, my other one was constant taking care of it, no more I hope. Your not alone I think all gardeners collect, I go to the garden center and buy with no thought as to where it's going to go and get home and look around and think where am I going to put this. Also, neighbors will say do you want some of this and of course I do most of the time sometimes if it is invasive I have to say no, because otherwise I will spend my time keeping it from getting out of control like goosen neck loose strife, I am constantly battleing it. lol. I am sure you have plants like that as well?

I know I need to repot my house plants as well and devide the bigger ones into two. Did that with all my african violets recently, they've perked up.

PS. I added a picture of what I-29 looking North looks like from our outing Wednesday to see the damage the waters have done. Lots!!!!!

They are a huge project it took over 2 weeks to get ours completed, Jensen Retaining Wall's did ours, working every day regardless of weather. Each block weights 120 lbs and the wall is half a block long as we live on the corner and there is only two places on this side street. Each section of the wall has 3 individual garden plots in it, first one I planted Stella Del Oro's and Purple Salvia. The second one is a row of nearly wild pink roses and then a section of purple speedwell and the last row is double pink knockout roses, with two purple clematis growing up separate trellis between the middle points of the knock out roses. The third section has 2 rose of Sharon in front of it is twice blooming lilacs, then staggered around the wall is 1 dappled willow, spirea bushes and in the front is autum joy sedum in pink along the garage wall edge which the retaining wall ends at the garage butting up to it, there is stella del ora's and a forsethia bush and Ivy growing on the side walls of the brick garage. Everything is new, next year it will fill in and in three years it will join together really well. First year is sparse but like I said it will fill in as things grow, didn't want to overwhelm the wall with too much and don't want to have to maintain it only as little as possible, as everyting else on the old wall was wildflowers and had to be deadheaded and didn't want to do that again, age is coming up and didn't think I could do this forever.

Yeah, the flooding has worsen over the last two days we went and looked at it last Monday and then went to Council Bluffs Lewis and Clark Monument to view I-29 north and it was just overwhelming to see all the water. Can't even recognize the area. I grew up in the flood area by the mormon bride and our families farm is underwater and all the neighbors we had out there have lost everything.

Deb,

Good for you getting everyting planted especially since we are now turning hot again. I know I too was getting everything in late due to all the rain and cold weather, it has been a very strange planting season hasn't it?

We just had a new retaining wall put in last fall and have been trying to get everyting planted in it and get it mulched and keep it going. It has been quite a job, but we finally got it close to completion, only have a couple of plants left to get in and now that it is hot will have to wait until late evening or early morning. We have a lot of concerns on flooding in our down town area and also in Council Bluffs, Iowa on the other side of the bridge, we went over yesterday to the Lewis and Clark look out point and seen how bad it is from a birds eye view and it is so overwhelmingly unbelieveable. No interstate I-29 toward Crescent and up to Sioux City, Iowa. Can't even see the interstate, my heart goes out to these people in the flood plains, we used to live in the Crescent, Iowa area along the river that is now under water, I spent all my childhood there on the farm and 15 years of my married life there, and now it is filled with water.

Hi Deb,
Saw you on the Christian Gardener's group, so went to your page and saw where you are and your cat Sterling is funny! I have 5 cats and another male stray that has joined the clan so that makes 3 males and 3 females. The last though, needs to be neutered it. He just discovered what it's like to be petted. His first reaction was a look of: what was that?? so sweet!! Now he waits to be petted before he eats his food! He's a male tabby and looks like a jr. to my J-Boy but I named him Carney. Other male is Cassey K-Boy and females are Carina, Cuddles and Carlita Rosita...LOL We live on 2 acres in TN but I am from MI. Well, it's late better get some shut eye...have known the Lord for 33 yrs. Nite for now, JR
