Amazed at all the gardens I see on this site, I'm so jealous. You all inspire me to be a better gardener and to pay more attention to the little things. Fighting the urge to let EVERYTHING grow is one of my ongoing battles. Finally realized that if something isn't happy where I planted it, not the right size or color, or behaving as promised, it must be moved or given away. I'm no master gardener but still pretty successful with veggies and fruits for some reason. Plants & flowers are on their own most of the time. Still experimenting and learning....

I love this site and seeing everyone's pictures, even as much as it inspires me, it makes me feel like a grain of sand on the beach. I work pretty hard in my gardens and I think they are so pretty, then I see what everyone else has done and I feel like I'm not trying hard enough. I get so many ideas from garden share that I sometimes am overwhelmed and feel I'll never have enough energy or time to do it all. Onset of yet another birthday has me self-evaluating and wondering if I can keep up…

This morning on the deck in the moonshine the temp was perfect, the breeze was perfect, the coffee was perfect, only thing missing was the smell of the ocean, don't have that in Southern Indiana. Worked at real job for 6 hours, came home and got down to business on the compost bins. Been lazy the past couple years and just started throwing things in there, today was the day I started to rectify that. Brought out the chipper and shoved stuff in and made small stuff out of it. One bin down 2…

7:30 a.m. I look outside at a foggy, foggy morning. Cold but sunny. Not a lot left to do out in the yard. Bring up some firewood, winterize the powered lawn equipment, mulch a couple newly transplanted bushes. Going to turn my thoughts to the holidays for a few weeks and then I will allow myself to start getting excited about spring. To be honest, I'm already a little excited and that's saying a lot since, it takes something pretty intense to excite or surprise me these days. I think that's why…

I would not be a very nice person if I didn't warn and or remind my fellow gardeners about a couple vines I am regretting. Wisteria is one of the more beautiful vines ever (along with kudzu) when in bloom, but I have only found one other that rivals it when it comes to tenacity and vigor; the trumpet creeper.
Thought I had the wisteria under control but this morning found new shoots and tentacles coming up under the deck about 10' away from main trunk and the new life is…

Thanks debbie, I found the flower on the wildflower web site... it's a Five Spot. (Nemophila maculata)
Debbie, your gardens are beautiful, as are your raccoons. What state are you in? I see snow and deer. We're in Maine, so it looks like you may have some similar seasonal issues.
Debbie I'm sorry I didn't respond sooner. My son built the patio. His first one. He did an awesome job of it. He also built my garden shed for me.
Debbie,
Thanks for compliments on my garden. I am started to get very excited because this long winter is FINALLY over and the garden is starting to wake up. I'm really looking forward to our peonies blooming (probably around Memorial Day). We have a really long wall lined with them and it's one of my favorite times of year.
I just looked at your pictures -- WOW. Looks like you have a lot of property. I'm originally from NYC and now in northern NJ, so when my husband and I bought a house with an acre of property 20 miles from the city, it seemed so huge. Well, we're having so much fun in the garden that we are now running out of room and wish we had another acre.
Your garden and landscape are beautiful. How do you grow all of those vegetables and beautiful shrubs and flowers with deer, skunks and raccoons all around? (And that picture you had of all the birds was unbelievable!) Teach me your secrets. The deer and groundhogs around here are relentless and we're always trying new things to thwart them. (Unfortunately, our town has very restrictive rules on what kind of fences you can put up, so it's hard to keep the critters out)
I love the way your gardens have areas of interest surrounded by grass and open space. And all of your plants look so healthy! Nice to "meet" you and I look forward to being further inspired by pictures of your garden!
