I live in California and have had Monarchs visiting my milkweed for about four weeks.  After waiting for ten years I am finally getting monarch caterpillars.

Temps dropped to 60 degrees today, so did not see any more monarchs flying. Hope they all made it out with the rain and cold weather coming!

The Monarchs are coming back to California in droves these days - hanging in huge clumps from certain trees in various groves along the coast.

NH monarchs are flying fast to avoid the rain and the cold weather coming. Hope they make it to either the Florida colony or to Texas and on to Mexico!

Snow in 49 states

Posted on February 13, 2010 at 11:00am 2 Comments

wow, I don't ever remember the weather channel saying there is snow in every state (except Hawaii)

It will probably give the ground some extra H2O and nutrients for the spring flowers. Looking forward to my garden to wake up in NH. Here is a photo down the street from me last fall. (not my house) and a winter ocean photo near me and my spring garden's peony with a couple of visitors.…

I remember where that light house is we stopped by that spot and went out and played around or the rocks there on our way to Maine to see the Nubble Light House at York Beach. The Land along the Road going up through that area is beautiful. As far as the Wisteria my dad used to take and drill a1" hole in the stump and pour diesel fuel in it and let it soak in and would kill it eventually.

Denise, if you want to get rid of your wisteria, cut the stem close to the ground then IMMEDIATELY (within 20 minutes) paint it with concentrated Round-up. For replacement, ck on bignoia, or crossvine, variety tangerine beauty. Think it is hardy below zero, leaves turn plum purple in winter and can grow to 40ft, with small base stems, mine are about an inch across after 5 years. You can cut it back severely, and it blooms different times of the year.
