First Garden fresh salad today!

Posted on April 19, 2010 at 9:00pm 4 Comments

My wife and I cut some of the romaine lettuce and the new asparagus shoots for our first taste of spring! Last year had such a rainy spring, that we planted our tomatoes (Better Boys) in the rain. This spring has been much dryer, and we could use some rain. I have a soaker hose under my mulch to tide me over until it rains in the Music City.

I like to garden, but I am not a pro. I am very busy, so I like easy to grow low maintenance and high productivity gardens. The best book I've ever read on gardening (in the city) was/is "The Square foot Garden" by Mel Bartholomew. My main interest is vegetables, then fruit trees, flowers and composting. I like to be an organic gardener as much as possible. I think there are a lot of Bible illustrations in a garden.

My husband and I box garden. He has this book and uses ideas from it. We are growing blackberries for the first time this year. Where in Nashville to you live. My son lived in Nashville from 2003 - this past September. We planted a church in East Nashville, East Nashville Community Church. We met for some time at Kirkpatrick Community Center then leased a building across from Nashville Auto Deisal School.

Thank you for friending me Don. This is a good sit to learn a lot about gardening and the tools and machines it takes to do the job. Of course different Ideas work better in some Zones compared to others but that is why it is a cool site for you can find some one in your zone that can help one better.Have a great day.
