"It may be a Japaneses Iris. I have a few looks similar. Or Maybe a hybrid. Pretty I like it. I found a few growing wild around a abandoned house in the country. I dug a few and brought them home. I wasn't stealing just thinning them out. LOL"

Can anybody identify this iris?

This iris came with a previous house and I'd like to know what it is. It blooms late April-early May, about two weeks after bearded iris here in central Alabama. The leaves are noticeably thinner and a little shorter than those of bearded iris, about 1.5-2 feet long. Grows from rhizomes not bulbs. I moved this one from the previous house to my current one - at the former house we had white and yellow ones as well, but I managed to dig up and move only the purple - poor planning not to mark them…See More

"It resembles a Dutch iris (from a bulb) and a German iris (from a rhizome). Wikipedia has some good information on the different types of iris."

Unknown iris

This is an iris (I assume) that previous owners had planted. It blooms about two weeks after bearded iris, late April / early May in Alabama. I had white and yellow varieties at a previous house but managed to dig up only the purple variety when we moved to a new house.Leaves are about 1.5-2 feet long and 1 inch wide, intermediate in height and thickness between bearded iris and Japanese iris.See More
