WooHoo! Nice morel! My father used to soak them in a little salt water to get the bugs out, dip them in an egg batter then deep fry them! Yummo!!! Enjoy!
I have always liked mullein, and am glad to see it when it volunteers in our yard. It is an herb with some medicinal qualities. Visit http://www.altnature.com/gallery/mullien.htm for more information.
Your sideways picture looks like Krossa Regal to me. And your third picture of this group looks like Love Pat, but I'm only comparing to varieties that I have and look similar. Your second picture looks like Blue Mammoth.
I don't think that #3 is Whirlwind. Whirlwind has less of a yellowish center and the biggest identifier for me of whirlwind is the veins that you can see in the white to light green center (depending on how much sun it gets). It could be Great…
Eric,
Good luck with the Poison Ivy. If you do get a reaction, calamine lotion & Benadryl are good for the outbreaks. Also, whatever you do, DO NOT BURN IT! You can get a reaction in your lungs, and it can be really dangerous.
I've seen…
Yes it is. If you wash immediately with Fels Naptha soap (that brown bar your grandmother had), you're good. I get it at the hardware store. Product in drug stores Tecnu is also effective. Good to be paranoid.
The fairies are from a local garden shop (The Chalet). It is concrete. I will look at the bottom later because I know there is a company marking on it and I will let you know. Everyone always loves them. sweet faces.
Eric, thanks for the heads up on Farmer John's! I wonder if they were the Crandall variety? The MDA guys said those are okay because they aren't a 'true' black currant. I was told that the permit is simply to make sure that varieties being planted are resistant to White Pine Blister Rust. Apparently the European varieties have difficulty with this.
Your pictures are beautiful! Did you go to the Northville Garden Walk this week? My mom was just telling me about it today. She lives in Novi, but works at the Gardenviews in downtown Northville.
Were those Morels on your property? I am going to try to grow some...keep your fingers crossed for me lol.
Thanks for the info Eric, I am in the process of loading all my pictures into Picasa. We just got a new computer and I was using windows photo gallery. On our other computer I used photoshop. I like what you did with the pictures so will give Picasa a try - maybe I don't need a new camera. Thanks for the compliments on my gardens - I do enjoy them!
