"I can see why you would think perhaps it is Lacecap as visually they are quite similar. However, it goes back to the growing habit. The lacecap, to my knowledge, is not invasive as Norma described. You can easily dig up a hydrangea and easily kill…"

" I think I agree with Adele. They are both quite close in appearance. What I am going by is the flowers themselves. Notice the split in each petal and compare it to your posted pic. The top image is the phlox. The bottom image is the soapwort. "

"If you look at the leaves, they are too round to be Joe Pye Weed and if you look at the Hydrangea flower, they are quite different. Also the hydrangea is not as invasive as you have described. What you have is known as "Rose Glory Bower"…"

Wonderful photos. I especially like the effect you used on the dandelion, making something so common, look so amazing!

Unfortunately I only have a remnant of it. Drought victim, complicated by tunneling critters. No, it is not native in GA, I'm quite sure of that. I liked it for the vaigated foliage when I bought it and was very pleased to see the lovely fowers it produced. I probably bought it from Pike's Nursery. A local chain in the Atlanta area. I'm terrible at remembering names of all the different plants I've tried. I bet you could google varigated hydrangea and get more info. Thanks for the inquiry.

Erich...Your photos are breath-taking. Are you a professional photographer?
And are all of these from your garden? If so, WOW! I'm impressed!

I just joined last week. I noticed the site on facebook. We are indeed almost neighbors..in fact, we have had several customers from Evansville stop in and buy some of our hostas. If you are ever up our way you should stop in. Our business hours are 9-5 on M W F and 9-2 on Sat.
I just retired from Mead Johnson in Oct 2007. I am sure you know where that is.... My business partner and I were two of the 8 locations for the Gibson County Master Gardeners Tour last year.
I do have one hosta that I have never actually dug up and divided..I just take off some cuttings from around the edges. The original to this plant has been in the ground for 8 yrs now. Some of them will get what is called a "fairy ring", that is where the center of the hosta does not come back and it only puts out shoots in a circle (ring effect). Some times you can dig out the center and fill with another hosta of the same kind. I have done this as well. It works and looks great. If you love hostas...you should go to Shady Acres, owned and operated by Becky Lutz. It is located on the highway which takes you into Wadesville, IN. I think the road is Diamond Ave out of Evansville. She is going out of business and has some gorgeous Hostas. She has been selling hostas for several years and some of her hosta in her gardens are to die for.

yes, i created the concrete leaves. It was very simple once I figured it out. But the only problem is, your leaves can have no holes in them which is hard with the bugs wanting to chomp on them!! LOL.
