Renting now, so I only have container gardens.

About Me

I can remember from the age of 4 that I began my interest in nature and plants. Since then gardening, landscaping, plants (particularly native species, wild edibles, and medicinal) have been a passion and lifelong hobby and interest. I had a landscaping business where I focused on creating Garden Rooms, Labyrinths, Sacred Space, and Backyard Wildlife Habitats - I would say... ""I'm probably the only landscaper in the USA who doesn't own a lawn mower or do lawns, I tear them out."

Today my business has shifted to essential oils and aromatherapy (it's easier on my body) and I reserve my physical energy for my own garden. Continuing to remain close to the plant world I've expanded and experienced essential oils for over 20 years; everything from First Aid to using them as dietary supplements, to healing my aches and pains to staying well. The healing and beneficial properties of plants has also been a passion since childhood. At 15 years old I began using herbs for healing and food.

The past few years I've spent writing almost daily on essential oils, aromatherapy, and other things natural and wild. I've created and support two blogs http://TheVeryEssenceBlog.com and http://YoungLivingCircleBlog.com

I've also studied: traditional Feng Shui, Labyrinth Design & Facilitation, Native Plants in the Landscape, Herbology, and Organc Landscaping.

Other interests: Birding, Butterfly Watching, Hiking, Camping, Photography, Cooking (slow and local), and of course love the environment in general (trying to help keep the place 'Greener').

Looking forward to meeting other gardener's and seeing what everybody is up to, happy gardening!
Evelyn

You're welcome, and thank you. If you get a chance to hear Tony Avent give a lecture jump on it. He's funny; extremely bright and a great plant explorer propagator. Another favorite nursery (mail order for both of us) to get unusual shrubs/trees is www.forestfarm.com - I think you'll love their prices, variety and quality too.

Thank you for the Friend Request, I enjoyed your photos, too! I've been redesigning a courtyard--I just retired, so I'm a new gardener. My flowers are very common while I learn to do this. I like to "decorate" garden areas, and I have several planting areas with sun and shade available. I live just outside of CLT--will look forward to "seeing" you on here more.

Hey Evelyn, We're on opposite sides of NC, but having grown up in Vermont and visiting where you live, it feels like home! I look forwarding to visiting your sites. Love your gardens you have shown in your pictures.

Evelyn, you're quite a ways from Raleigh, but trust me it's worth the trip to go to Plant Delights Nursery run by Tony Avent. It's a fantastic nursery, my most favorite and a very wide/diverse set of plant life for sale there and his show gardens are wonderful. Also a great mail order nursery too... www.plantdelights.com - but you probably know about it already.

I'm sure once you find the time you will have to go to Bryson City and take the train there. Its really a fun trip. We stayed at a lovely B&B there. Not sure how far it is from your location though. Where did you move from before NC??
You aren't missing much not seeing Illinois. Mainly flat and uninteresting.Lots of corn. Been here all my life, but luckily have seen a good portion of this lovely country of ours so I am not unhappy living here...as long as I can get away a few weeks of the year. Just wish I could live somewhere else and grow different plants for a change. I -love- the Northwest..Seattle or even British Columbia...someday...:-) Happy Spring back to you.
