Second Stage of Spring Garden

Posted on May 4, 2010 at 10:10pm 0 Comments

Now that most of the fire ants are gone, I have achieved cleaning the raised bed. I am also filling in the cement blocks and using them for my herbs and marigolds to deter deer. My seeds I received from Renee's Garden have germinated 100% and my bare root Stark Bros. Tri-Star Strawberries at 100% recovery and growing. Excited to watch the development of my garden of experiments to see what works best this year.

Here are some shots of the beginning.

In the picture below, I have planted… Continue

Francis, Somehow I missed your last post about your daughter. My wife is taking a nap but I'll ask her when she wakes. When did she graduate? My youngest graduated from MHS in '88 but my wife taught until '97. And I'm not an English expert either. I have learned a few things from her but if I write a paper, I get her to proof it for me and she always red-lines it quite a bit. LOL

I just realized you asked if I have a sprinkler system. I don't but then I don't have a real lawn either. I am in the process of putting in drip irrigation in my veg. garden and the few flower beds that I have. I'm trying to get everything on a timer/timers. Gonna take some work.

Hi Frances, I know exactly where you are. We lived just south of Conroe for 19 years and my wife taught at MHS, H.S. English for 15 years. We moved here in the country in '99. I see you're a MG. I'm President of the Leon Co. MG this year. I attended the St. Conference in Conroe a couple of years ago. I'm not a big flower grower but love my veg. garden. I am getting better with flowers however.

Thanks for reminding me which site I was on! It's The Mulch.com that won't let me post pictures without a flickr type account. My feeble brain....

Hi Frances: I guess we were on the same page so to speak, with our rose hips. I love your photo, beautiful colors and light. I need to get a flickr account or something similar so I can post photos on gardeners index. My blog uses a browser, so I have been lazy about doing that. Enjoy your rose hips.
