Thanks Grant! I've had a summer home in Maine in the past and the soil can be sandy. Where I am now is good. I look forward to breaking ground in April.

Thank you Grant for starting a new active group. I've been making banana bread almost every other day lately. I give it to the gals at the bank the guys at Teen Challenge thrift store, people/friends that I work for and anyone willing to take one. I've even been having some myself lately. I made little round ones in chick pot pie size tins only 1/2 full last night. Was going to take them to church and wanted lots of them to share but slept in and didn't make it to church.

Grant since our houseplant group page went away we may as well go to the other one that is on page 8 of the groups. Spread the word if you will please that group is pretty much inactive and better than starting an other one.

I love May in the Phoenix area (it's easy to do).  Days are warm, but not brutal, and mornings, evenings, and nights are absolutely magical.  Here in my little garden, we've not yet hit 100 F, although it's coming for sure.  That being said, days are…

Soil vs. water for rooting Jerusalem cherries

Posted on May 12, 2013 at 7:34pm 0 Comments

Okay blog, it's time to shake things up.  GONE are the longer, more infrequent updates, and HERE are the shorter, more immediate happenings.  The longer format seems too wordy to me, and it takes so long that I don't update as much as I should.  Let's get started!

I love variegated Jerusalem cherries (Solanum pseudocapsicum).  They have neat variegated foliage, and fun striped berries that turn yellow then red when ripe.  The downside?  All seedlings from the seeds are albinos…

The secret ingredient to a great garden: memories!

Posted on June 7, 2012 at 6:44pm 5 Comments

You know, this week while I was doing some early morning pre-work gardening chores (a requirement here in summer when afternoons are beastly hot), I really started enjoying the southeast corner of my little garden.  Oh sure, I was crouched down weeding and grubbing…
