wheel cultivators and planters

I bought a new wheel cultivator and seeder from Earthway this year and am moderately satisfied with them. The cultivator isn't sturdy enough to really handle the rigors of production gardening-- boy do I long for my dad's old Planet Junior wheel-hoe! The seeder (which I unashamedly refer to as a planter) has saved some labor but I really feel it is too poorly constructed also. Yes you can get parts for it, but it just seems to waste seed and bind up quite a bit. Nothing's really broken yet…See More

What kind of gardening do you like to do?
vegetable
How much time do you spend a week on average in your garden when weather permits?
30-50 hrs.

My farm: Declaration Farms

This year for the first time, I am raising produce to sell. I have about 3/4 of an acre on which I am concentrating on melons, cucumbers, watermelons, okra, beans, tomatoes, and hot peppers. A little later I plan to plant pumpkins, peas, turnips, beets, radishes and other cool season crops for the fall. This year is my first go at marketing, but so far I have found quite a demand for my produce, with at least fifty of my friends interested in purchasing it when it's ripe. Unfortunately I got a bit of a late start on it for the year, due to weather and circumstances, but the first beans should be ready around July 7 with other things thereafter.

I am trying to grow everything organic-- not so much because I'm a firm believer in it but because it is a good selling point. So far I have not broken the rules-- I anticipate getting some good advice from some of you for pest control, etc.

James, I left a comment on cultivators and seeders for you. Hope it is of interest. Another great book on gardening techniques, esp he organic method is by SallyJean Cunningham, "Great Garden Companions". I find gardening to be such an up and down thing with certain things being outright failures and others spectacular success. With you focusing on gardening as a business, I hope you have fair winds, sunny skies and smooth sailing!

I just have a small garden: 4 4x8 raised frames. My tomatoes have hyst started setting fruit but it was over 90 today here. the trouble is,, we either get a deluge of rain or the ground is parched. I'm going to have to water everything tomorrow.
