still waiting for the warm weather to actually stay..... the temps here are back to "normal" and not a lot of people are happy about it.....that one week when it was 70-80 all week really got people in the mood to plant, but now i wouldnt dare put anything in the ground unless i really wanna kill it.....the over night temps are still in the lower 30's upper 20's and im really nervous about the apple crop this year because some have already come out of dormancy and started to bud...........…

Sharon Howell z7NC said… Hi Jessica, I have red wigglers, the kind that make castings. I have them in a tote like Matthew demonstrates in my sewing room/plant room now worm bin. They need to be kepted at around 70F.They are very easiy, they do not smell either. They are not earth rooms that live outside. They make great worm compost much quicker than an outside compost heap. I make worm tea to water plants, best fertilizer ever. Your recyled dog pool will work great for outdoor composter. Just drill holes in bottom for water.
Sharon Howell z7NC said… welcome Jessica to Composting & Vermicomposting. A couple of us are doing worm bins. So far I have not lost any so I must be doing it right.
they like banana peels cut up and put in the freezer, when you take them out they are mushy for them. Veggies I chopped in blender then put in freezer.
Enjoy your flowers and veggie plantings.
