"Woodpeckers or yellow bellied sap suckers. Probably won't greatly harm tree. Some people have put fine screen to shield the main trunk from the birds. I've often wondered if a hot pepper spray would last long enough to be effective."

"Doesn't look great but the some of the new leaves look OK. Wonder if it's an acidity problem. Azaleas need acidic soil and water. I can't grow them here because my water has too many minerals in it that makes it basic. Hopefully…"
