Oh, man, Kristine – I love Clematis!  This one is dynamite!  Its hard for me to grow them in the foothills of SoCal.  It is pretty hot for four, or more, months.  And dry.

Good color combos – great against the pale gray siding.  Charming, completely charming.

I do have volunteer basil coming up from the lush plants of last year. I have MS, so I use raised beds with fresh dirt for seedlings and rotate where various plants are grown. I agree, basil is so easy - which is why it so puzzling. Not a big…

I am having a very unusual problem. I recently set out my small veggie & herb patch. For the first time ever, my sweet basil seems to be dying! It started out fine, but now the leaves are wilting despite plenty of sun, water, and drainage. Has…

I hate to kill such cool creatures, so I finally found a humane way to deal with them. Lay out an old piece of wood in the place they are munching what you don't want them to eat. They will take cover under the wood in the day. You…

Ugh we have an infestation of those in my yard.  Just moved here three years ago and i had never seen anything like them.  They are everywhere but seem to do little damage here.  I have heard bowl of beer for them to drown in…

I put stale beer out and they drown in it. I also keep a running board on the ground every night and lift it in the morning and toss the little buggers into a jar of water. Let me know where you'll be selling the fried slugs so i can skip that…

http://www.fcps.edu/islandcreekes/ecology/leopard_slug.htm Dear Gardening Friends, Click on the link above to see what I have witnessed. The first time I noticed these creatures, two of the hermorphadites were hanging in my garage in a hammock of slime as is their way of procreation. Tonight I was out with my dog Scout and found them eating zuchchini leaves and fruits. They also love lamb's ears. They are very robust -…See More

True, cucumbers do cross with other plants but the hybrid does not appear until you plant the seeds. Once I saved seeds from a very lovely pumpkin, but the following year I had cuckins or perhaps puncbers - the fruits were white and smelled like…

Hey, Starr! Where do you live? There is a differrence between the mountains, the piedmont, and the coast. Overall NC is wonderful for gardening! We have the greatest variety of natural plant life than any other state. Most of our soil is heavy with…

Dear Charlotte, Perhaps Linda can send them some of that stinkhorn fungus? I think it would make a nice centerpiece for their dining table. Some folks just don't get that plants are people, too. I am sorry about your situation. ~k

Hi Kristine,
Sorry that I am just now getting to your reply; our home computer died. I am on my husband's work computer. I'll have to see if my Iris' come back in the spring. I'll let you know then!
Thanks for your concern,
Sandy

Oh, yea, about that fox...... that picture of him is the corner where he stops and lifts his leg on my Iris'. I had no idea what was killing them until I saw that was going on.

Kristine, I see that you asked about growing Hyacinth Bean Vines. I would suggest that you move them to a new location next year, but before you plant go to Southern States or some nursery and buy some nitrogen fixing agent for your soil. It is cheap, easy, and next summer you will have lots of beautiful purple bean vines to admire!

hi Kristine,
The Apex nursery is a huge place right down the road from me - I"m not sure if they are retail or wholesale only, but they're big!
