Fennel

Posted on April 2, 2011 at 3:54pm 4 Comments

Today I ordered some fennel seeds. I used to have some fennel herb plants when I lived in Ohio a long time ago but I never really knew what to do with them then. I thought the plants themselves were gorgeous so today I decided to order some seeds. I made 2 choices, I ordered a pack of Florence Fennel seeds from a company called Seed Needs, and a pack of organic bronze fennel seeds, foeniculum herb, from Hirt's Gardens. I still really didn't know what to do with this stuff once I grew them so I… Continue

I don't have snails (YUKYUKYUK), I can imagine how much you want to rid your garden of them. I have heard that twisting a ring of copper wire around beloved plants a few inches inside the drip line works for some people. Apparently snails won't cross over it. I buy Turkey grit at feed stores to make soil drain better, & I must say it's very long lived, and mixes in and (well, if you get some you will see the difference.) That might be as good or better them DE because it is like sharp little shells, I don't handle it without gloves. I wear gloves for everything anyway.

I just watched your slide show, what a wonderful way to start the day. The bird pics bring joy. We have the same taste in plants, although our climate is different. Sunflowers, Nasturtium, Heuchera, Birds and more birds, Lilies, Coreopsis, Coneflower, and pots. For a beginner you have quite the garden. I posted a pic of Verbena Bonariensis on my page to see if you like it. When they begin going to seed, I would love to send you some. My camera doesn't do it justice, but they  bloom literally from mid-June to frost. No deadheading. When the Sun shines through at different times of day, well, it is truly beautiful. And self-sowing, what a blessing!

Good Morning Kristy,

Do you do any canning? Yesterday I bought a nice water bath canner at a yard sale.

Ireally want to get into canning this year. Last year I canned some okra, but found out that my okra was too big. It was very tough and woody...lol This year I will pick smaller pods....lol@myself.

Anyway, I would like to know if you have a good water bath recipe for tomatoes?
