Just saw the pic your were talking about. You got some good advice on the cactus web site. That looks like a blue cereus. Try not to touch the stem too much, you'll lose some of that blue color. I have one about 4 to 5 ft tall; looks great in a blue pot.
Cut the start as close to the base as you can with a razor or sharp knife. Let it dry for about a week, then plant with a little rooting hormone, do not water for a few days, then very sparingly. Should work out if its of a good size.
