Woodland Retreat in our own Backyard

Converted an old "storage shed" and installed Blue Stone Patios with Fire Pit and a 100ft stream to create a small retreat right out our back door. Landscaped it all for a nature setting.

Fall is here and my Mammoth Mums are starting to Bloom

Posted on September 21, 2009 at 9:45am 1 Comment

Now that Fall is starting to come my Mammoth Mums are popping out! I love these wonderful large perennials that produce thousands of blooms each year. They provide color all through my garden and last way into Fall. Living in Minnesota this keeps my garden going as long as possible before the long cold winter. My Mums range in color: Red, Yellow, Orange and Purple. They spread fast and need to be divided in the Spring. You could fill up your entire garden with beautiful color in the Fall in no… Continue

Winter Seed Sowing

Posted on September 10, 2009 at 3:13pm 0 Comments

Living in Minnesota it is hard to grown plants from seed. The season seems to short; and indoor seeding takes a lot of time and care. So, I tried my hand at Winter Seed Sowing. Sowing seeds in Jan. Feb. and March and leaving them outside so nature can take its course. Very little work and easy!!!! I had success my first time. Here is a photo of the "milk bottles" that serviced as a mini greenhouse for my seeds. Check out My Page for an album showing some of the flowers that I grew and placed in… Continue

Your Joseph's Coat Amaranth is beautiful. Is it grown from seeds or did you purchase the plant? I like the Matchstick Mum as a compliment plant. Your garden and surrounding area is stuning.

Hey Linda! Good to hear from you. I bet you don't want to come home! I am eyeing the shrubs that need trimming up and anxiously waiting for weather just above freezing so I can get outside and trim some things up. We have a thing called "Spring Affair" that is put on by the Univ. It is the end of March. It is a veritable candyland of plants all sizes and varities. Most gardeners in Lincoln start drooling as it comes near. Here is the site http://springaffair.unl.edu/. You would have so much fun...

lucky you to be leaving on a 35 degree wind chill day! Terry and I will be leaving for a quick 1 week trip Key West Florida for a bit of warmth and sunshine!
That is a good idea to start your seeds early indoors do you have to use grow lights?
I like to start getting gardening magizines to keep me busy planning in Feb.
Happy new year hope you had a good trip!
