I love to do garden design
How much time do you spend a week on average in your garden when weather permits?
Not as much as I should

What brings me here?

My name is Linda and I have been in the garden way longer than I would like to admit. (40+ years) Started as a renter trying her hand at dressing up a cheap apartment. I could grow houseplants with the best of them. My failures were African Violets and English Ivy. I still can't grow English Ivy to save my soul. I moved it to a Rental side-by-side and pots of Petunias and rows of Marigolds. Then I met my husband and it was NUTS. We grew everything we could. Flowers, veggies, herbs, kids, grandkids and now the kids are growing gardens of their own. I am a firm believer in organic gardening anything that will go into you or your kids and grandkids mouths. I love nothing more than giving the box store, nursery, or garden center castoffs a second chance. Taking a blank plot of grass and turning it into something that needs to be weeded and preened, not with a lawnmower. I took a Master Gardener course and learned about soil and diseases and bugs. Fascinating. Did I mention I still can't grow an English Ivy. Then I started taking pictures of the gardens, the grandkids in the garden, (I have a great one of my Grandson at age 1ish trying a potato fresh from the garden. I'm gonna bust it out at his engagement party one day) gardens we visited on our travels. Messed with the photos with some software. Got a digital camera and more software and here I am. Whew, I'm really old. I can't wait to meet as many of you as I can (I still don't know how all these websites work,so I answer myself alot) and learn as much as I can about everything you can teach me. I feel like I have a free pass to 6Flags. "More Flags, More fun!"

I tell my husband, "I might fall down, but I get right back up and keep on going." He called me the energizer Bunny one day shortly after my stroke. An old friend gave me a bookmarker when my first child was born(1975). It said "DON'T GIVE UP." I still have that bookmarker and carry it in my purse everywhere I go. When I find it when looking for something lost in the bottom of the purse I read it, think of her and how she kept going no matter what and carefully place it back where it was. and KEEP ON GOING. I also think the beauty in the garden makes me want more...so I keep on planting. Thanks for all you wonderful comments...friends do wonders when you are down.

wow... sounds like you have had a rough ride down that stream. Nice analogy.

Nature is the best healer, oh yeah... you can find yourself again.
There is no "closure, only assimilation"... gardening can help with that.
I love to hang out with garden geeks at the yard and garden line... we gossip, talk about weird viruses that are attacking tomatoes and before you know it you have managed to forget our troubles.

Medical Bills should be called the bill of death...you die trying to pay them off. I was on partial disability since 2000 car accident and then in January had a stroke. PT/OT helped me but now my husband is never home because he is taking all the overtime to pay my bills off. As you said, "more to come". I still need all my medication and that is not covered at all.

I garden because it keeps me sane. It keeps me busy, out of trouble, and gives me a piece of mind when I can give others food to help them. I have 2 small vegie gardens and my flower gardens are spread all over my yard. I have a pond in my "island garden". It is right in the middle of my back yard...I spend alot of time there. Good Luck with everything and Happy Gardening.

My son taked me into joining facebook or I would not have been up for doing this, it is very similar but just all about what I love! I am off in wedding world with my daughter being married on the 22nd of this month. You know how consuming that can be. I still remember how hard it rained for your daughters garden wedding!

P.S. to Gail,
It's not just the camera, it's the photographer. I taught a garden photo class for the M.G.'s and stressed that it is the ability of the person to actually "see" the photo that is the number one factor in a beautiful image.
Linda has that ability to see.
