storm of the century for Amsterdam

Posted on August 30, 2011 at 12:57pm 5 Comments

Our town got hit by Irene and it knocked us for a loop. The whole city is shocked, water logged and saddened at the loss of a Historic home built by Guy Johnson. Guy Park State Historic Site, is a house built in 1773 for Guy Johnson In 1774,  The original house was struck by lightning and burnt to the ground.  Johnson left the house never to return in 1775 because of the American Revalutionary War. After many years as a tavern,  the house has become a historical  museum, with exhibits…

I live in a rough neighborhood. It never used to be this way, I grew up on this street. But over the years, transplants from NYC decided that my neighborhhod would be a great place to destroy...and destroy they did..Gone are the lovely, manicured properties and small businesses on every corner...Gone are the old timers, mainly of Polish decent, who made this neighborhood flourish and prosper..As a child growing up, I remember we couldn't even spit on the sidewalk without someone… Continue

Dear Lisa, we must be kindred spirits. My recent hospital stay was because my once hyper thyroid went hypo and you know the havoc that creates!!! Having both Addison's and thyroid disease is the cause of my cardiac arrest 23 years ago. In the blood tests, one masked the other until a weight loss of 90lbs in 4 months caused my heart muscles to stop. I had always been a skinny girl so living life as an over weight person was a real depressing time. I have changed my eating habits to avoid serious blood sugar #s and I am happy to say  I lost 40 lbs and feel much better in my own skin again!!! I can relate to everything you are going thru and would like to be a support you can count on. Peace and sweet blessings to you my new friend!!!!!!

Just read you have a dog named Addison, I did as well!! Had to let him go but he was quickly replaced. I have Addison's disease so that's where his name came from. I have had Labs forever and the old girl we still have is named Denzel Noel Harrison. Yeah, I know, I know, its a boys name but when I got her his movie was being advertised and I would be snuggling my puppy, looking at the hunk of a man and saying Denzie, Denzie to the TV and she started licking my face like crazy and that was that. I hope I haven't given her a sexual identity issue..lol!!! side bar, after gardening for 20+ yrs. w/dogs, I finally gave them a separate area to do their thing since my health keeps me from walking them on a regular basis. Duh...wish I had thought of that yrs. ago!!!!!!!!!!

A red ribbon for your lovely photos of your sanctuary so beautifully described in your blog. What a challenge you have met to the decline of your neighborhood.
