Puppies in the Garden

Last year we had a litter of Bernese Mountain Dogs who were my gardening buddies until they went to their new homes at eight weeks. They were a photo opportunity of cuteness!

What kind of gardening do you like to do?
flowers/perennials and annuals
How much time do you spend a week on average in your garden when weather permits?
As much as I can

In the beginning . . .

I started gardening four years ago after we built our house on twenty acres just outside of Madison, Wisconsin. Although I had lived in the city for 30 years, my roots are rural, so there was something nostalgic about digging in the dirt. My husband, Dave, likes the idea of a beautiful garden, but he does not share my passion in the physical activity. He does enjoy, however, the trips to Menards, Middleton Power Center, or Home Depot to provide me with the latest and greatest tools! I attempted seeds this spring setting up racks and lights in my sunroom (finally putting that room to use), eventually moving the plants to an old greenhouse left on a 5 acre farmette that is part of our property. I also, for the first time, overwintered geraniums, lantana, and a few other tender perennials in our heated garage with great success! Since the garage stayed around 40 degrees and there was light coming in through several windows, the geraniams never lost their leaves and like magic took off in the spring! I'm so excited about all the money I've saved this year by doing this. In addition, I took cuttings from my overwintered plants saving even more!

My biggest challenge is color. I so admire people who have an artistic flair and can just throw things together with beautiful results. Having the opportunity to see other gardener's handiwork gives me a great deal of inspiration and I'm slowly learning not to overanalyze. I love sharing my progress with others with the same passion along with sharing my other passion, photography.

Hi Lynne,

I'm not so sure your Cedar Waxwing is a voyeur; more likely he's just patiently waiting his turn. Sensible bird. If he crashed this party, it'd be two against one.

Neat picture though. I never think to get the camera when there's a picture in the making--I think about it later. Your ability to see a cute picture in the making is also a talent!

Thank you for sending your other BEE pic too! Yes, I DO love the pollen all over his body...What a cutie! I took a few photos of my Bees on my Sunflowers, Dahlias, & Anise Hyssop, and got a few shots of pollen on their legs & little feelers! I just think they are amazing little BEEings! ha! ;o) Thank you for being a Gardening Buddy! Keep on taking those "cool" shots & sending them in! later, Kenda

Hi Lynne,

I'm just now figuring out how the "message" part of the thing works. I kept writting to all these people and not ever getting a response (or at least that's what I thought). But now I realize that the return comments/messages are at the bottom of my page (DUH!).

So, please excuse my delay in getting back with you. I love your pictures too. Especially the D-O-G's. You are quite the photographer! I wished I knew more about this art (photography), because I feel like there are so many things that are "overlooked" by ones eye......and it can so be captured with a camera. You have done that in a lot of your pictures.

There is anyother web-site that frequently visit (pbase.com). I've never become a "member" per se, but it's free to visit and same some of the pictures that other upload. It's really a web-site for the expert photographers. They showcase the camera they use (which some are almost as expensive as my car....I know, b/c I was going to ask for one for Christmas one year), and they work that they do. And I am going to tell you....some people have the best jobs! You should check it out. Your work should be on there. You're that good.

Anyhoo, thanks for the message. I'm a novice gardener and have loved stumbling upon this site......oh yeah, I love the story about your daughter...that was me at 19! FUNNY!

Talk with you later,

M, Georgia Girl

Fred that's appropriate. We have a Hendrick. I think he's famous in the neighborhood. He's just a baby, 9 months.
I do use the flower button (macro) and sometime I use the portrait button at the same time. It is right next to the auto on my camera lol. Accidental
discovery. lol
The site is photoshoptalent .com I entered contests it was fun at first but then everyone got serious. I used tsettles as my name, some of my stuff is weird though and some is just bad. lol Anyhow, there is alot of useful info on the site.
I notice that my photos and yours are quite similar, even the choice of pics.
Then the dogs too. It's kinda odd, don't ya think?
