I also try to use the phases of the moon when I'm having my hair cut,  or even my pets that have to be groomed , including cutting of their nails. When the moon is waning your hair will grow back slower. I tell this to any beautician and…

My grandfather always planted by the moon's signs.  As Lawrence said (above), the water signs are the most fertile, and the earth signs are next.  Grandpap's favorite sign to plant in, though, was Virgo (he called her "the…

Thanks, Beverly. I've been away from the site for a while (got a job) but with winter coming on, I'll plug in more often. This year was very bad for gardens in my area, no one got much of anything. Weird weather...

The next 3 days are probably some of the best to Plant By The Moon (signs). The moon is in it's first quarter, the Sun is in Taurus, a earth sign. The moon will be in Cancer, a water sign from Monday afternoon, all day Tuesday and early…

A couple of last ideas: If you are over wintering the pile, you might want to keep it covered. I just gently lay some plastic over mine, to keep it from getting too wet. When ever I add to the pile I make a opening in the center, put in the new…

Just a thought: Straw will have some seed in it. Easy to pull when sprouts appear. Hay has a lot of seed and might make a lawn! I'd make sure to use straw.

My experience has been that the branches that have had the die-back pruned off flower. I have young plants so that might be a factor.

I had never heard about the animal slaughtering but it does make sense to me because these animals are grown for food. It seems that years ago people were alot more attached to the Earth than nowadays. Some of there customs should be adopted not…

I use to always plant according to the phase of the moon. I've sorta slipped away from it all but I still look it up. I also try to cut my hair and my pets hair according to the moon. You'd be surprized , or maybe not, how many folks think…

Hi Mara, I'm still a hippie at heart!!! Live in the city but dream of someday being out in country with all of nature surrounding me!! I see you live in Oregon...have never seen but heard it is so pretty (and a good place to be a hippie too) LOL!!!

I'm in southern Oregon at about 1300 feet. We have Anna's hummingbirds in and out all year. I usually put the feeders out in March, but since I got 'buzzed' today, I'll put them out early (and hope we don't get a freeze!).

Wow, we usually don't have hummers until April, but we have been having a weird winter with no snow. This is the place where we had 9 feet of snow last winter. I'm interested in when you usually see those little birds. Are they early to your house?
