Thanks Sharon! I have planeted the ferns. I am so excited. I hope they all do well. I am not sure about where I put them but I have a few wooded areas and I have put them there and took your advise on putting some behind Hostas. Most places I put…
Sharon, I have been a little confused. I went to Dave's Garden website and people that live in Birmingham say they are in zone 7, 7a or 7b. I have always thought I was in zone 8, central Alabama, between Birmingham and Anniston, about the same…
I had some beautiful Cala Lilies this summer. One plant had huge pods on it. I had these last year and just let them fall to the ground. This year I cut them and took them apart to dry. I have stored them but now I don't know what to do with…
Thanks I will wait until the first frost to cut them back. Have you ever seen ostrich ferns? I just got 18...I may have over done that one a bit! I love ferns now to find a place to put them. I have some knock out roses in pots on my deck on the…
I wish I had know about self watering boxes! Maybe in a few years I will change mine out. I know they are too shallow for what I want to grow. Yes, we have had alot of rain also. I have planted alot of things in my yard and glad I haven't had…
I know I am asking so many questions, but your pictures are beautiful! I put flower box on my deck railing they get a lot of sun but they are not very deep. I put Hyacinths in the bottom since they should only get 10" and pansies on top. I do…
Sorry I am just now getting back with you. I live in central Alabama, Talladega, zone 8. We will probably get a frost next month. It is cooler than normal here. Thanks, I will try the Bayer's. I have a lot of Knock-oout roses so I should not…
Hi May!
Here is a link that might help you with your zoning issue. You are definitely in zone 7. http://www.growit.com/zones/
I will be glad to look at your pictures. It has been a long time since I gardened there, but I will offer what suggestions I can. As for your gardening style, I think you have a bit of a contradiction going. You said you like formal gardens, but also said that you like English Gardens and Cottage Gardens, both of which are far from formal. If you want to post your pictures here, I will look at them. If you have a photo bucket or other picture account, just send me the link.
Yes, I do know about your climate. It's not too different from where I live now (Georgia), but I am south so I am in the lower edge of zone 8. There are just a few things that you can grow that I can't, like peonies, but I can grow lots of tropicals that are annuals for you.
The area has changed so much! I don't get there too often anymore. My mother is here with me and so the family that I have are cousins and such there. It's beautiful there this time of year!
Glad to meet you Mary. I hope to have the opportunity to get to know you better!
Many Blessings!
Sharon
