Ah, October.... I don't have zone envy today, the weather is perfect in So Cal - 74 degrees. [Side note: I can never decide, is 74 or 75 is the perfect temp? I'm originally from San Diego and we discuss such things.] However, September was a bust! "The Zone" was not cooperating - triple digit heat and fires. NO ONE was outside in September in the San Gabby Valley. We were sealed inside like "squab under glass". All I could do was stare through the windows at the life outside. Yes, the weeds… Continue
My Summer Vacation: Part 1 - Zone Envy

It is truly a sickness, gardening that is. I was somewhere in the middle of the corn and soy bean fields of rural Pennsylvania traveling to my sister-in-laws house. My mind wonders and 15 minutes later I realize that I have been counting the GIANT Hydrangea (shrub) in full bloom at every farm, house, condo and place of business. Not the whimpy ones that I have in my "10A" yard, but the lush ones you see in "6A". I call this ZONE ENVY.

When I was in Cologne, Germany, a couple years ago, I snapped a photo of a huge, expensive-looking department store called "Sauers" -- maybe we're rich?!? :D
