Well hello, everyone....

My name is Merri and I live in Statham, GA. Which is about 12 miles from Athens (and I'm sure that most people know where that it).

I am a new gardener and if you had told me 6 years ago that I would be playing the dirt, I would have told you to go smack your mother, because she dropped you on your head as a child. But now, I've since "grown up" (not really), and purchased a house, as far as gardening goes.....well, as we say around these parts........"I'm in".

No turning back now! Full speed ahead. I have learned so much about so many things; nature, birds, wildlife in general, pest (bugs), and believe or not, I'm not afraid of spiders any more. I've just realized and you may think it's comical, but when I see a spider (only the bad ones), I take my shoe OFF to smack it. Why don't I just step on it? Isn't that unsual? Why are women like that? Do we just "not" want to feel or hear the squish? I'm not sure, but I know that I'm not afraid.

I am loving this new site that I just happened up on............through Facebook of all places! Looking forward to learning and meeting others from ALL over. Hope to bring a little laughter and sunshine into everyone's day. That's my way.........
Mary

Gosh....it's been quite a while since I've last visited here. I nearly forgot the how-to's about scooting around on Gardernersindex! Now that's sad.

I'll be back when I have more news. Just running short on time right now..........but have tons of wonderful things to share.

Until then~

Posted to Facebook last night (11:04pm)

As I sat here this evening, alone, watching the History Channel and all of it’s programs recapping and showing unseen footage of September 11, 2001, I had to stop and began to thank God that I am proud to be an American!

We all will have memories, good and bad that will always be with us; but rest assure we will never forget where we were at that moment in time and our reaction to the heinous violence that OUR America… Continue

Good Morning Everyon!

Just thought I would take a second to write a little something funny. I believe that had blogged about this before (08/19/09) - about how I decided to take the day off and do "nothing". I painted a few little wooden items that I had found at a community yard sale for $1.00 each.

Well, I placed these little.......whatever they're called in my kitched window last night and this morning, as I stumbled to the coffee pot, I washed my hands, and… Continue

Well hey ya'll! Just checking things out and sending out friend request.....I LOVE THIS SITE! I sent my crazy brother an invite yesterday and he actually joined! He's so funny (what a little doo-doo-head). No really, he's the greatest brother (sigh*). He's coming up to stay for a few days; and by "coming up", I mean from Florida. He and his wife, Amy (aka....my SIL) live in Tallahassee, FL. They are a lot of fun to be around and I enjoy when we are blessed to have time together. He has a… Continue

Cypress Vine

Posted on August 18, 2009 at 7:27pm 0 Comments

Hello everyone,

I have had the pleasure of purchasing two Cypress vines ($.50 each) from a local church event and planted them at my mailbox. Needless to say, WOW! They have taken off like crazy.

I did a little research about them on-line and found out that they self-seed. Which, I kind of already knew..but certainly didn't know that it would do so very well. And I PROMISE, I have done nothing to help this plant, except run a fishing line up my mailbox to help guide… Continue

These dogs lived together with me for 15 years. This photo was taken shortly after I got them. They are play fighting. No one was hurt! I promise you! I love dogs. I never thought how the photo might look to other people. To me it reminds me of how much they loved each other because I KNOW they are playing... but someone else might not. Maybe I'll pick another shot of them together.

I'm trying to over winter a first year potted a Lavendula Angustifolio (English lavender) in zone 5 NE Kansas, and also some potted rosemary.

Hi Merri, woman of the dirt!!! I love the way you got into gardening. Once you discovery how fun it it, you can't stop! Thank you for your comment on my kitty video. I get into stupid voice whenever I talk to them, just how I am I guess. Your hibicus look great, this year has been so wet, mine are in shreds from mites, I wonder if they will even bloom. Also, your ceramic ? bird house, what kind of birds live there? It looked as though it was occupied. I bet if you worked at it you could teach your kitties how to do the treat trick, don't know about the dog. I have neve had one, I have always wanted one. I will be back to check for more photos! Thank you again. Deb :)

Merri, thanks for your comments. I visited that site and of course, that lead me to other related sites, so think this winter when I have more time I'm going to pursue SOMETHING with my pictures. My family tells me that all the time, especially with our travel pictures but I just think, oh, of course my family WOULD say that. It's time to put myself out there to see what others think!

Merri, I, too, saw this site on Facebook and just clicked on it and ended up here! I find I use it more than I do Facebook. Your video of your babies is so sweet. I have a small dog in addition to my two large Bernese Mountain dogs, and also three cats. The cats are especially fond of my little dog and always head butt and rub up on her in a greeting. Only one of the cats is brave enough to love the big dogs! In time you will grow brave enough to love your spiders. Just try to think of them as the predators of the pests that eat your plants! My 19 year old daughter is also afraid of spiders. My husband bought her this long battery operated tube thing that suck them up like a vacuum because she was even afraid to stomp them. She finally got over it on her ROTC weekend where she had to sleep on the ground in the woods for three nights. I'm not suggesting you go to that extreme! Great pics of your flowers.
