Hello from Holly, MI!
Thanks for stopping by! I live near Holly, MI on a third of an acre surrounded on three sides by 30,000 acres of State wildlife land. I've been an avid gardener all my life, starting when I helped my Grandmother in her garden.
I share my life and garden with my husband and two dogs, Gracie a Great Dane/lab and George, a beagle - both rescues. I didn’t rescue my husband - he rescued me.
Our soil is sandy; some of it looked like a beach when we first moved in, thirty years ago! I grow veggies, herbs, perennials, annuals - just about anything I can find a spot for. There are large black walnut trees on the state land, so I fight their toxins when I plant tomatoes, but have found ways around that.
We used to have a small fish pond, clay lined, but it sprung a leak and now I just have a hole in the ground - have to fix that!
I'm also a writer and a painter and the garden serves up plenty of inspiration!

We've been eating fresh radishes from the salad garden - grated on sandwiches and salads - yum!
I must be nuts - I planted a bunch more seed in peat pots - mostly sunflowers because if i plant them directly into the soil the chipmunks and squirrels dig them up and eat them! I also planted some delphinium seeds in hopes of having those in my flower garden next year. I planted garlic chives and French Marigold seeds in peat pots too.
This is the first year I've tilled up the…

I've started thinning the radishes and ate three so far - they're small, about the size of a marble - and yummy!
I planted more dill, basil and radish seeds today and did a bunch of weeding and watering.
The pole beans are looking good in the three sisters garden - the corn better hurry us and grow to support them!
I dug out the spiderwort from the strawberry bed and planted a pink coreopsis in it's place.
My butterfly bush has a few leaves on it, so…

we finally got some rain, but now it's cold out - almost 50 and my baby tomatoes and basil won't like that!
I planted more tomato, basil and lettuce plants. I think I planted some carrots - seeds I started but not sure what they are!

Another beautiful day! I planted the four apricot pansies I'd almost forgotten about, as well as a dozen lettuce seedlings I started in April.
I dug out a row six inches deep and eighteen feet long and sifted the soil. I think we could open a gravel mine if we get tired of growing veggies. I added some bone meal to the bottom of the trench, sifted the soil back in and planted Chardonnay carrot seeds in the row.
So great to have my hands in the dirt!

I planted the Brandywine tomatoes that I started from seeds I saved from last years tomatoes. I also planted about a dozen baby basil plants - can't wait for tomato, basil salad!
Bruce got all my hoses hooked up so I can set out the soaker hoses - but I hope we get rain soon - rainwater is best! I've used half my rain barrel water - so I'm ready for rain!
The Three sisters garden is growing - the beans and squash have started to grow. I did a dumb thing - I wanted to put…
