"Are hostas hardy there in the north, we have them in the ground and mulch them will with leaves and they do great , we are in zone 5/6 area. But I know how you feal, you hate to see them die :("

"Patti, These are a clients' daisies. From the looks of the crown they must have been there at least 5 to 7 years. I would only divide them if they seemed to be struggling or if you simply wanted more plants. I think next year I will cut them…"

"Patti, All I can say is it seems logical to me to cut them low where the stalks are thick but not all the way to the ground. Cut too high and the side blooms are whimpy like peony deadheading. In a mass I'm going to try cutting back one-third…"

"I want to know that same thing, my shasta daisy's didn't have a good year. We had a hard rain and they fell over, so I cut them way back but so far no more blooms. Bummer, so maybe someone can help us...."

Thank you Patti! Yes, all these flowers are ours. We have really lucked out by planting mostly perenials a number of years ago so they don't require much tending accept a few minutes cleaning up when the blooms are spent and the occasional fertilizing or spraying for bugs. The large quantity of time spent is in the winter cleaning out the dead and early spring weeding. We sit in the garden every night to look, smell the fragrance and destress. Kathi

"I used to take mine in for the winter and store in the garage.  A couple of years ago, I planted in my beds and left them out all winter.  They did much better.  I'm a Zone 5 in South/Central Indiana - Seymour. "
