Just went to the large garden center today for 'cool-weather' plants. I was looking for the pink wax begonias that grow so beautifully for me, especially in containers. I know you northerners are shaking your heads but I've have kept these blooming through most of our winters better than our hot summers. I only saw red ones, which I don't care for, until I couldn't resist the bargain area.

I just bought 2 Canna - Tropicana and Tropicana Gold in 2 gal. pots - at Lowes for only $3.99 each. First leaves are starting to look bad and no flowers so they went to the mark-down area. New shoots with great leaves coming up, even coming out of the drainage holes! Will put them in the ground ASAP. gotta love it!

Until now, our Homeowners Assoc. rules have been pretty strict regarding front yards. Only St. Augustine grass, no more than 25% of the area non-lawn, etc. Houses are close together with small front lawns and uniform landscaping does enhance the look. The builder gave each house a palm tree, magnolia tree and/or live oak. Now, 6 yrs later, we can see that most were planted without regard for the mature sizes.
