Winter Sowing

Winter Sowing is an easy seed germination method that allows you to start many seedlings for little cost. During the Winter months seeds are sown into mini-greenhouses that you make yourself from recycled containers, such as milk jugs, soda and juice bottles, take out food containers, etc.  After sowing, the mini-greenhouse is placed outside to wait for the end of Winter. The seeds will begin to germinate at their own right time when weather warms. (Courtesy of WinterSown.Org)See More

I just realized I didn't answer where I lived.  I'm in the country just north of OSR and about 3 mi. east of IH-45.  That puts me about 100 mi. N. of Houston and 135 mi. S. of Dallas.  Or about 1/2 way between Madisonville & Centerville, TX.  As for composting:  I have a bin I bought on-line that's about 40" X 40".  I put all my veggie kitchen scraps in it along with leaves I collect in my daughters neighborhood when her neighbors put them out in bags.  I add leaves ever so often. I should really turn the pile every week or so but have been lazy with that.  I'll try to post a pic soon.

Thanks, Peggy.  Actually, I'm having to make some repairs to the greenhouse now.  We had a windstorm a while back that tore off some of the siding.  I made a mistake when I bought some of it and it wasn't resistant to UV rays from the sun.  It got very brittle and cracked so when the wind hit it, it went bye, bye.  I've bought the right stuff to replace it but just haven't gotten to it yet.

More on composting later.  Gotta make a run to the dump.  :)

Welcome to Garden-Share! You might want to start by checking out the Group page for garden-related groups and topics you may be interested in. Joining a few groups is a great way to meet other gardeners and get started on Garden-Share.

Then please participate! Groups are the best places to ask questions and share your knowledge about gardening.

Also, there are Videos to watch (how-to, humor), Blogs to read (informative, entertaining), Photos to look at (beautiful, unusual, inspiring), and new friends to meet. If you have more photos (or videos) of your plants or garden, please share them - I'd love to see more of your photos!

Again, welcome! :)
