"We use to cut ours back all the time--we got tired of them growing so fast, soo.... we let them grow & cut the stuff at the bottom. We fertilize every yr. & I get beautiful flowers all the time! FYI they are about 16ft high or more!"

Ree, I can understand the 'by accident' comment! I forgot I had planted caladiums in some pots last year until they started to sprout through the impatiens I added this year. A very nice look. Now the impatiens are past, I'm planting periwinkle (vinca) for color. As for too much water, I have a tuberous begonia in a pot that is outside but under a roof, that is slowly rotting away from the humidity.
My problem is buying plants and leaving them in pots too long while I decide where to plant them. I really should get the garden ready before I buy and plant them at their peak.

"I used to take mine in for the winter and store in the garage.  A couple of years ago, I planted in my beds and left them out all winter.  They did much better.  I'm a Zone 5 in South/Central Indiana - Seymour. "
