Mold and Fungi

The rainfall this spring in Des Moines has been unusually heavy. Almost two complete flats of impatients have rotted. Now, a bed of begonias are covered with a yellow cap of mold/fungus. This is completely covering the plant and is spreading. It is also in a bed where occasional fungi sprout. I've accepted that the annual plantings are toast, but should I be concerned about the fungi spreading and attempt at eradication?

"Nasturtiums.morning glories(soak seeds first),zinnias.marigolds and many others. Look on the seed packets and it will say to seed directly into the garden. Also seed catalogs are a good reference for faster growing plants."

Sarah,
How are the azaleas doing? Did you get the recipe for fool proof azalea soil that I attached to a comment on the "Perennials" group page? I got it out of "Better Homes & Gardens" magazine. The man that wrote the article is an expert at growing azaleas & rhododendrons. Let me know how you're making out.

8 hours of sun may be too much. Try relocatin it to a partial sun location, preferably morning sun with dappled afternoon shade. If you do relocate it, add some rich compost and peat moss to the planting hole and surrounding area. Also, make sure it doesn't get too dry, azalea roots run close to the surface. There's a new azalea out that I found at Lowe's called "Encore" that boom in Spring, Summer & again in Fall. They supposedly can take full sun more than other varieties. You can also buy them mail order at the website "BrighterBlooms.com" Good luck!!!
