Is "full sun" sometimes too much?

I have a few crops: cucumbers and corn that supposedly need full sun but are thriving in portions of my garden that get some shade from a fence and doing less than perfect in the sunnier portion.  I live at 6200 feet in Colorado Springs and we get lots of sunshine.  I'm wondering if the term "full sun" maybe refers to areas that have more cloudy days than here and maybe "full sun" here is too full.  Any thoughts on this?

Problems with cross-pollination of squash/pumpkins

I'm planning to grow pumpkins and zucchini.  I've heard that they can cross-pollinate but I don't know how that might affect either crop.  I do not plan on keeping seeds.  Anyone have experience with this?

"I noticed with my carrots last year that the ones that were shaded did far better. This may be your problem too, either they are too dry , or too hot to grow. Try shading them that may help, they are a cold weather crop after all."

Hi Scott Yes that's it. Mostly white blooms, but sometimes tinged pink. It propagates by root (the worst) and by seed. Rip those blooms off. You have to get every bit of white root or it just keeps coming back. It spreads so fast it makes you wish all your good plants were like that. It binds very tight to anything it can climb, it is even difficult to remove when its dead off of any trellis or decorative fencing. Edward in the UK said that you can kill it with Roundup, but I haven't tried it yet. Kill it in the spring or you will pay for the rest of the year as you watch it drag down wildflowers, hollyhocks, anything even minutely vertical. This weed is a curse on all gardeners here in Colorado and probably elsewhere too. Good Luck, I sure haven't had any with my battles for supremacy.

Beautiful pictures! I am always amazed at how huge pumpkins get in the short span of a summer.
