Thea...I have seen something similar to this in my garden on my archway of ..??? Can't think!!!
Got it...Woodbine..!
But he would not stay still long enough for me to take a pic!
This i thought was a figment of my immagination . But it is a Humming Bird ,Butterfly ,Moth , and i know nothing about them . Just they fly around in my Phlox .
Thea, those white butterflies are the bane of a gardeners Brassicas. They lay their eggs on my cabbages and then their baby caterpillers eat them and leave them looking like nets!
I do not know what kind of butterfly this is for sure but my husband says it is a tiger butterfly . But i do not think the bottom of its wings should be all jagged . I am wondering if something is eating the wings .

I have been away for such a long time and soo many changes. First moved my mother from her home to residential board and care, sold her home and belongings, sold our beautiful Montecito home, gave up our place on Balboa Island over-looking the water, and moved to a turn-key home with little space for gardening. My attention now will be on container gardening and designing an atrium and renewing my interest in houseplants. Also, we are considering buying a place in Palm Springs, so that should bring some interesting gardening challenges with the intense summer heat. I see this site has really changed during my absence and I think for the better. Hope all is well with everyone and glad to be back in the fold.
Hi Terri
Now is not the time to replace water lillies, as they do not like cold weather. Fish can take full sun, and especially like a deeper pond of 3' or deeper. I would not use tar on tree cuts or plant cuts, as this seals in pathogens and disease. Leave the would open, for better air circulation. The pond will be ready for new lillies in about 8 weeks:)
HOPE your site is doing well. I checked it out the other night.
I think I might have sent you a message, both my parents passed away 16 days apart. I have been in Texas for 8 very long weeks. AND I have to go back next week to help clean out my parents house. Guess I don't have to, I want to.
WISH I was going to be home working in my yard and getting ready for Spring and working on my web sites.... There is always next year.
Hi Terri,
The cacuts and succulent convention isn't until 2011. We are hosting, so it feels as if it next month!
I went to the Huntington Cactus symposium over the weekend. It was fun and the desert garden was in great form. It was just before the storms hit.
Terri, I'd like that. I figure if you spend several thousand on a vacation, why skimp on film to relive it. We brought the rolls home and once a week we would print 2 rolls, make a latte, and relive the trip, 2 sets of pics at a time.
