Today is a beautiful day here in San Francisco...yes, I'm here for 6 weeks to take care of my 88-year-old aunt; the weather is so beautiful I think I'll get on my bicycle and go for a ride. It's a tuff job, but somebody's gotta do it! I wish I could attach some pics of my Auntie's garden, but my camera went kaput the other day; I don't know why, so I have nothing to attach, Sorry! I'm new to this site, so I just wanted to say hello to all of you fellow gardeners!
CSundberg said… Hi Terry, Thanks for the information on the pond. You asked if I'm going to build one~ Yes!, if my husband doesn't buy a home on a lake, then I'm building ponds! LOL. Tuff way to go fishing huh? (Just kidding) I think you do stellar work and I'm very critical in my opinion. Did you follow a plan or book design?
Thanks for your help and I'll be checking your blog for features.
Donna said… Terry,
Rain gardens are depressions in the soil used as a termination point for downspouts and runoff. Here in Western Washington they are being used more and more to handle the large amounts of runoff from our landscapes rather than direct the water into the storm water system. The garden is planted with vegetation that thrives in wet to dry and back environment. The water then can percolate through the soil and get clean before it ends up in our rivers and lakes. The county and city are encouraging the use of them.

OregonGardenGal said… Thanks so very much for sharing the 'creation process' of your lovely pond as well as the final BEAUTIFUL photo of it last August! You have inspired me and now I will officially declare I want one too!!!
Donna said… Thanks Terry, hey I have a huge pile of broken concrete in my backyard, you can have some! Yes, it is fun to reuse it, more and more people are doing that. It's hard to hawl away so makes sense to try and do something with it.

hello Terry-thanks for your compliments on my photos. The green plant in the yellow pot is a cactus of some sort, This photo was taken in the Majorelle Gardens in Marrakech Morocco in 2008.
