What kind of gardening do you like to do?
I'm interested in flower and edible-garden gardening (fruits, veggies, herbs). I would love to grow a cottage-type garden someday. *dreams*
How much time do you spend a week on average in your garden when weather permits?
A few hours, I would guess

A little bit more about me

I'm 25 years-old, a newlywed and living in Northwest Ohio. My husband and I are trying to get into a little bit of gardening (or, *I* am) to not only improve the look of our yard, but as a hobby for myself. I'm looking for any help, tips and ideas I can get. (FYI - If you noticed my domain name up there, I chose the name because I *love* spring. I love flowers. I love the idea of new life and new beginnings, and I think that name fit all of those. :) It isn't a blog/domain about gardening, though.)

My beginner improvements to our yard include pulling out a bunch of overgrown, old, half-dead shrubs to clear out a nice area around out house, planting a heck of a lock of tulips (which are beautiful right now) and some misc. other flowers, and buying a few flowering shrubs (grootendorst).

I tend to pay attention to properties we drive by to possibly get inspiration for our's, but I'm not very creative and I'm not yet sure if I'm a good gardener/landscaper.

I dream of someday living in a beautiful cottage surrounded by lush gardens. But that's just a dream.

My husband and I also like to have a veggie garden, but have only done so one year so far. we plan to do another this year. Some of our favorite things to grow are tomatoes, carrots, lettuce, watermelon, jalapenos and chives.. but I'd love to try more.

We're also attempting to make compost for the first time. We hope everything works out!

Hi Tiffany, great pictures for being a beginner! I guess I consider myself a beginner, although I listed myself as intermediate, because I feel like a beginner most of the time because I'm always contemplating on what to plant and where. It's also my first time doing a vegetable garden. My friends say that I have a green thumb though because they wouldn't know where to start compared to what I have done so far! I love working outside and I find it to be a great stress reliever.

Hi Tiffany; I'm new to this site too. I'm 57 and have been moving around alot through my life. I moved into this house 5 yrs ago and hope to stay here forever. My gardens are coming along slowly but i'm very happ with what I've done so far. My friends consider me quite knowing when it comes to gardening but I'm sure my talents are nothing compared to some of the people here. I'm not on this site alot but am (more than) willing to help out in any way that I can! Later...B

Hi Tiffany, I'm a bit older than you (okay, I'm 40), but I am also in NW Ohio. I need to add more photos, but I've put a few...I'm working on the front of my house this year...and I either tinker or do things too big...too big this time. lol
I just joined the 27th and have to check out the site much more, but really like what I've seen. :-)

For a beginner, you have beautiful peonies and lilac blooms!! Good job! I am still pleading with my lilac to "prosper" -- they just don't seem to like the clay soil enough to have the desire to continue living.... So I enjoyed your blooms.

That does look like a Sarah Bernhardt Peony, but I'm really no expert.
