Tom Pennington replied to Jamie's discussion Slugs??!!! in the group Zone 5
"It helps minimize slugs by getting rid of as many dark and/or wet spots as possible in your garden. They live under rocks, bricks, landscape timbers, etc. I simply roll those items over where possible, kill the slugs and put the border material back…"

Tom Pennington replied to Peter Urban's discussion So many of us love a good cup of coffee but how much is too much when it comes to plants? in the group Master Gardeners
"Pine needles are the mulch of choice in the sub-tropical South where I grew up (New Orleans). They are plentiful, very attractive and best of all, free to those who go out and rake them up. Most turpentine is found in wood pulp, not in the needles.…"

Tom Pennington replied to Jennifer's discussion What is a good bush that is fragrant and blooms most of the year? in the group Zone 5
"Moonflowers bloom all summer and are extremely fragrant. However, some people say they are poisonous to animals if the animals eat them. Personally, I don't think so and I grow them every year. They bloom white flowers as big as saucers at…"

I had read another gardener say yesterday was the first day of spring...But, I had thought today was spring as well; and TC had also brought it up at FB the other day..."so, Happy Spring to you as well my friend"...Today, I am going to find a spot for my purple iris hubs dug out of the ground.

We are adding a sidwealk where they used to be...Do you happen to know if I can just replant them? Or do I have to cut the iris stalk down to the tuber and start fresh?

Hi Tom, So glad you got a chance to work in your garden yesterday. I spent time with my plants that live on the patio. I missed them during the rainy season. They are alive and well. So pretty. Have noticed radishes sprouting in the rock garden I built a few weeks back; and one Alaskan pea.. I'm certain I planted 8 peas; but will be happy with one. I am starting tomatoes from seed in a tray; next year (forget that) I'm going to just buy the plant ~ I'm sure you have a lot of shortcuts in gardening.

Well, Enjoy the rest of the day ~ I look forward to hearing adventures from your garden.
