Hi Toni!
Thanks for your kind comments. After 10 years here with just a builders beginner yard in a shale rock soil,in a 25 year old house, it is finally getting where my vision leads me. It is just my husband and myself on a quarter acre lot-mostly front yard! He has a weird schedule that means 12 hour shifts that rotates days/nights, even weekends and holidays. It leaves him sometimes 2 to 3 days a week when I am working. It allows more time for projects. We have worked so hard for the last few years to bring our "dog" backyard up to speed. With the addition of new (our hand construction) custom stick built fencing, two arbors, a wrought iron gazebo and paver stone patio, and now raised stone garden beds that frame the rear fencing and up both of the side yard fences, and a new water feature, the backyard is starting to shape up. We should be finishing the edible landscaping project this spring. No contractors for us! We are now enjoying the shipment of a new "L" shaped sectional. We also have added a commercial propane heater for the deck to expand our use as things thaw. I already have a huge mosquito net for the umbrella over the sectional. Jim's HUGE project last year is finished with the stone raised vegetable/flower/herb beds that wrap up both side yard fences and the entire back fence. The final truck load of topsoil should finished this project up for spring planting. My seeds and vegetable garden beds are now ready for full force planting! I have purchased two portable greenhouses that allow for seedlings to be started outside for the spring planting. I have potential of over 1,500 seedlings. My edible landscaping plans are getting closer every day! We should be enjoying very healthy eating with rotation of three season plantings, Spring, Summer and then Fall. I also added 6-40" deck rail troughs self watering planters along the upper deck rail and rotated all kinds of greens from spinach, beets and many gourmet lettuces (the deer, ground hog and rabbits cannot reach them there!). We made delicious fresh salads all last summer! We will also have grapes, strawberries, thornless blackberries, Chinese Wolfberry and smooth Kiwi vines in active production by Spring! Last fall we added 5 semi-dwarf fruit trees of apple, peach and cherries! No salmonella of e-coli in our production!!
