Rain, rain, rain!

OK... maybe I shouldn't have said I wanted some rain, because it hasn't stopped.. for WEEKS. I can't get out and enjoy the flowers that I get and they only last a day or two because the hard rain knocks all the flowers off. This is getting rediculous! My lupine fell over, my foxglove lost all its flowers and my lilacs lasted only a few days! I have to take pictures of my garden in the rain and they look terrible. Enough already!Well, I was way down back by the firepit the other nite and what…See More

What's New

Well,I spent most of the day Saturday trying to finish up the left side of my new garden. I hauled landscape timbers, drilled them, pounded in the rebar and used up what mulch I had left. I planted a few flowers, moved a few flowers and pulled some weeds. I need more mulch, of course, and have to finish the back side of the end garden, but all in all, it's looking good. The grass we planted is coming in so I'll be able to take the stakes out and get some decent pics.I pruned my small leaf…See More

Rain

I guess I should be happy about getting some rain... saves me from the hour it takes to water all my gardens and new grass. It is coming in nicely, but somehow, the plants I dug up and moved decided to leave a bit of themselves behind! I just pulled up a bit of wild ginger and some goats beard that must have really liked it's spot.I'll be so happy when the grass comes in. Trying to decide what to do with that area. I'd love to put in a water feature or some seating, but just don't know yet.…See More

Trying to finish a project!

Last nite I took some time off in the garden to work on my jewelry, but tonite, I really have to get back in the yard and get the rest of my landscape timbers down. My plan is to get them all down, move some plants I had to put into pots to the right spot and get my mulch spread.I got the front row of timbers down and ready for the rebar. I have things placed where I think I might want them to grow. I ordered a few things on line that I wish were here already. Sweet william and football mums. I…See More

How can you be happy and sad that the weekend is over already??? I'll tell you. You work like a DOG all weekend long and can't wait to get back to normal, sitting in a chair, working on the computer all day!

I like being busy, have to be busy, but sometimes I get to a point that my mind is still going and the body is all done. That was this weekend. After buying and hauling 15 landscape timbers, unloading them, placing them where they are going, planting 2 lilacs, a sandcherry,… Continue

Hi Tracy, you have a Royal Paulownia tree, better known as an Empress tree or Princess tree. My only advice is give it lots of room, it will grow to 50' very fast. The roots don't seem to be a problem. It will bloom in 3 to 5 years. I have one and cut it to about 10 foot every year, it then grows a new 6 ft every year. The leaves are huge, larger than a dinner plate if you keep it cut the leaves get larger. When I planted mine I just let it grow until a few years later I had a huge tree with a trunk the size of a hundred year old tree. My arborist cut it down to about four feet and I have pruned yearly since. The leaves are now almost 2'x 2' and quite a conversation piece. The blooms while pretty are not it's best feature. Enjoy raking those leaves
