Woody consistency of my pears.
Last year, we only had a few juicy and delicious pears from each of our pear trees. The core where the seeds are were filled with fire ants so I had to peel, core, and slice them under running water. This year we got a bumper crop with all the rain, and no fire ants (YAY!). But the pears are hard and woody. Even after doubling the cooking time, the woody consistency prevails. I hate to throw them all in the compost heap. What could have caused this?

My Florida Gardening Experience
So far, my gardening experiences in the Florida panhandle have been a resounding failure. When I moved down here from IL, I was almost arrogant about my supposed gardening expertise. I was a very successful gardener in IL, and gave bedding plants as well as bountiful harvests to my neighbors and friends. I am starting my 3rd year down here, and I'm hoping this website can give me some help.
