Clare Oliva said… Anne, now that you've found the perfect spot for your peonies, they will definitely getting bigger and have more blooms each year. It is very typical for peonies to only have a few or NO blooms the first year. After that, they take off! (Gardening teaches us patience!)

Yes, you absolutely must get the white peonies. My favorite (and the most fragrant) is one called Festiva Maxima.

Perfect, Anne! From my experience, peonies don't like mulch close to the stems. We dig back the mulch in early spring when we first see the red stems emerging.

Wow, that peony is really getting big, Anne! What is the stuff on the ground around it? If it's mulch, pull it back a bit away from the peony stems. I'm so psyched for you -- I hope you get some blooms this year!
